BCSD Interim Superintendent Alerts Parents To Upcoming Emergency Drills

The Interim Superintendent of the Berlin Central School District, Dr. Brian Howard, will be issuing a letter on November 5 to parents of students in the District to inform them of the upcoming series of emergency drills in each of Berlin CSD’s schools, starting November 8 and continuing through November 12.

A Two Year, $150k Grant Will Support Area Drug And Alcohol Coalition
The Rensselaer County Underage Drinking Coalition has just received a two year, $150,000 grant to assist local drug coalitions and community organizations in their efforts to prevent and reduce substance abuse among youth. The money will be used to further organize and train coalitions in Berlin Central and Hoosic Valley School Districts so that each coalition will be prepared to apply for a five year, $125,000 per year, Drug Free Communities Grant. JLS Announces New Program To Increase College Scholarships
The JLS Foundation announced a new community service program designed to make a positive impact on the Town of Hoosick and to offer more college scholarship money to a winning student from Hoosick Falls Central School (HFCS).
The JLS Foundation honors the memory of the late John Liporace Sr. Each year the Foundation selects five finalists from the HFCS senior class and sends them to New York City where they meet a network of inspirational leaders working across a variety of industries. One student receives a $2,000 college grant.

Darrow School Hosts Empty Bowls Benefit
On Wednesday, November 17, at 6 pm, Darrow School will host Empty Bowls, a special community meal designed to bring awareness to world hunger. Proceeds from the event, which is also supported by the Mountain Road School in New Lebanon, with food by Brock Food Services, will benefit Charlie’s Pantry, a New Lebanon based food bank, and Oxfam America, one of the country’s largest nonprofits dedicated to creating lasting solutions to poverty, hunger and injustice. Battle Of The Panthers For The Section II, Class C Superbowl

It’s déjà vu for Hoosick Falls Panther football as they prepare to meet the Chatham Panthers once again in the Section II, Class C Superbowl game. In 2009 both Panther teams battled to a tie until the last three seconds when Quinn Rasmus booted a game winning 39 yard field goal to win the contest for Hoosick Falls. The 2010 match-up will be just as exciting as both teams share matching records of 9-0.

HFCS Girls Soccer Loses To Top Seed In Sectionals

On Wednesday November 3, the Hoosick Falls Panthers played the Maple Hill Wildcats for a spot in the Sectional Final game against Chatham. The game was played on neutral ground at the Stillwater High School. Hoosick Falls was up against the number one seed in the section, Maple Hill.

HFCS Golf Team Has Another Successful Season

The Hoosick Falls Golf Team ended the season in a three way tie for second place in the WASAREN Golf League final standings with their 10-4 record, along with Hoosic Valley and Granville. The number one school was Schuylerville with 11 wins and 3 losses.
