Fordians Use Their Heads To Get By Mountaineers

In a rematch of last year’s Class C Championship game, Berlin boys varsity soccer hosted the first place Waterford Fordians on Monday afternoon. After falling 3-1 to Waterford in their season opener, the Mountaineers were looking for revenge against the top team in the Central Hudson Valley League. Letter To The Editor – Lead Hazard At BES
To the Editor:
I write this letter to help inform the public of what I believe to be a serious public health hazard in the Berlin Elementary School. The Berlin School District just released the lead testing results, and I believe that the importance and the dangers are being downplayed. Almost all the window troughs tested in the classrooms were not just a little elevated as portrayed by BOCES but in most cases significantly over the HUD and EPA standards. Letter To The Editor – New Year Is A Disaster
To the Editor:
So a new year has started at BES and, as most of us probably anticipated, it’s a “DISASTER.” My child has 27 kids in his class. Yes, you read that right, 27 kids. How is this for “the better of the kids”? How are these kids going to get a proper education with that many students in one class? How can a teacher attend to the different needs of each student with that class size and no aide? Next HFCS PTA Meeting
The next business meeting of the HFCS PTA will take place on Wednesday, October 20, in the Elementary School Library beginning at 6:30 pm.
As always, members and non-members are encouraged to join meetings to find out what the PTA is doing for our children and to share ideas for special programs and events to benefit the children and families of our school district.

HFCS PTA Fall Festival 2010 Is Just Around The Corner!
It’s that time of year when the HFCS PTA gears up for their annual Fall Festival, now in its tenth year. The hustle-bustle is underway and the excitement mounting for the young and young-at-heart as Fall Festival 2010 is just around the corner. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, October 23, from 9 am to 3 pm at HFCS.

Beautiful Day For A Cow Plop

Sunday was a perfect autumn day. The weather was absolutely beautiful for the St. Mary’s Academy Cow Plop and Car Show. There were plenty of activities for the kids and lots of great food. Ben Patten supplied plenty of patter and music to match the era of the 113 collector cars, trucks and motorcycle that made up this year’s show. Those vehicles just gleamed in the sun!

Hoosick Falls Field Hockey Undefeated After Nine Games

On Monday, September 20, HFCS Field Hockey played Warrensburg at home. HF sailed to a 5-0 victory to bring their season record to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in League play. Goals by senior Samantha Skott, with an assist from Freshman Carsen Williams, by junior Hailey Bugbee, with an assist from senior Karley Morin, and by senior Alyssa Schneider made it 3-0 at half time. JLS Foundation Finalists Attend Networking Day In New York
Five students from the Class of 2011 at Hoosick Falls Central School recently attended a networking day in New York City where they met with five professionals who shared stories about their careers, offered advice on how to be successful and pledged to stay in contact with the students to help them plan their college and post-college careers.

Open House For HFCS Capital Improvement Project

The $8.3 million Capital Improvement Project at Hoosick Falls Central School is now complete. On Thursday, October 7, at 6 pm the school will hold a community-wide Open House to offer residents the opportunity to view the many and diverse physical plant improvements and updates at the school.
