No Increase In BCSD Tax Levy

The Berlin School Board at their regular meeting Tuesday set the tax levy for the 2010-11 school year at the amount approved by the voters in June, which is $8,317,221. The levy is the same as for the previous year. The levy results in the following tax rates per thousand, apportionment of the levy and percentage changes in the individual towns. Only one town, Stephentown, will see an increase this year.

New Principal For Elementary School

At its regular meeting on August 4 the New Lebanon Central School Board and Administration welcomed Rebecca Marzeski to the District. Beginning on August 9, she will become the Principal of Walter B. Howard Elementary School.
Little Impact From State Budget
Although four months late, the New York State budget finally passed. While it is uncertain how much the budget will affect New York State’s schools, the New Lebanon administration was confident that it would have little impact on the 2010-2011 school budget. Berlin Middle/High School Sports Practices
Sports conditioning classes will be held for all athletes from 9 am to 11 am starting August 16.
Boys JV and Varsity Soccer practices start August 23, from 8:30 to 10:30 am.
Girls JV and Varsity Soccer practices start August 23 from 5 to 7 pm.
Girls JV and Varsity Volleyball practices start August 23 from 6 to 8 pm.
Varsity Cross Country starts on August 23 from 8 to 9:30 am and 6 to 8 pm.
Modified boys and girls soccer and modified cross country starts the first day of school, September 8, at 2:15 pm.
Berlin High School Golf Fund Raiser
More than thirty students from Berlin High School will be travelling to Spain next April and, in an effort to help defray the cost of their trip, they will be sponsoring a golf tournament at the Windy Hills Country Club in Greenwich, NY, on Saturday, August 21. The cost per person is $80 and includes a continental breakfast, greens fees, cart rental, hot-dogs and refreshments at the turn and a dinner buffet after the tournament. Generous Grad Treats NLCS Alumni To Dinner

New Lebanon Central School alumni filled the Stephentown Fire Hall on Saturday, July 17. It was the 2010 NLCS Alumni Dinner, sponsored and paid for once again by Richard Burns, Class of ’49. The generous Mr. Burns, who now resides in Shelton, CT, has picked up the tab now for the fifth straight year, and the turnout each year has, not surprisingly, been great.

St. Mary’s Academy Class Of 1960 Reunion
The Saint Mary’s Academy class of 1960 held its 50th reunion on July 10. The event was held at the Stirrup Square banquet room in Pittstown. HFCS Wrestling Coach Chris Marsh Recognized

Kevin Robichaud Graduates From MCLA
Kevin Alan Robichaud graduated on May 22, 2010, from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in North Adams, MA, with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics. Having earlier graduated from Hudson Valley Community College, Kevin continued his education at MCLA to complete his B.A. in Mathematics. He remained on the Dean’s List each semester
Kevin will be pursuing his Master’s degree through the College of St. Rose in Albany. Meanwhile he has accepted a position as a Calculus teacher at Hoosac School in the Town of Hoosick.
Kevin is the son of Alan and Loraine Robichaud of Hoosick Falls.
