HFCS Kindergarten 2010 Celebration

On Thursday, June 24, eighty-eight children completed kindergarten at Hoosick Falls Central. They ended their first school year by climbing onto the stage in the high school auditorium, reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, singing songs, playing kazoos, individually shaking hands with their Principal, Mr. Dailey, and then standing center stage for a moment of glory, the first of many to come during their school years ahead. So many youngsters with so many different personalities.

Carl Brownell Retires

Saint Mary’s Academy Class Of 1960 Reunion

The Saint Mary’s Academy Class of 1960 will be celebrating its 50th reunion on July 10, 2010. The event will be held at the Powers Tavern, Sterup Square, Raymertown, NY, with cocktails at 5:30 pm and dinner at 7 pm. The class is expecting a large turnout.
On July 9 there will be an informal gathering at the Firehouse Restaurant in Hoosick Falls at 8 pm.
Also a Vigil Mass for the deceased members of the class will be held at the Immaculate Conception Church at 4 pm on July 10.

Setting The Record Straight

In a telephone conversation on Friday afternoon, June 18, Berlin Central School District Interim Superintendent of Schools Charlotte Gregory explained the purpose of the slate of resolutions she presented to the School Board to vote on in the Board of Education meeting on June 16. The resolutions were to be taken as a whole and were intended to meet the technical requirements for a series of reassignments throughout the School District’s administration. HFCS Board Meeting

The Hoosick Falls School Board meeting began with presentations from the Athletic Booster Club, the Performing Arts Booster Club and the PTA. Superintendent Ken Facin said it was “great to hear about all of the activities supported by these dedicated volunteer groups and the many ways they enrich the lives of our students.”

Kindergartners Wear Helmets For Bicycle Safety

The kindergarten classes at Hoosick Falls Central School have been learning about bicycle safety and the importance of wearing a helmet.  As a culminating activity to this unit, on Friday, June 11, the students participated in a Trike-A-Thon!  To raise money for the Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center, students gathered pledges and then took turns riding bikes, tricycles and scooters around the gymnasium for an entire hour.  The kindergarten students raised $1,840!

HFCS Softball Exceeds Expectations, Loses Close State Finals Game

Saturday, June 12, was a day of highs and lows for the HFCS Softball team. The high came in the morning semifinal matchup with Gananda (25-1) in the NYS Class C Softball Championship Final Four in Waterloo. Hoosick Falls took that game 3-2. Rachel Quackenbush pitched 11 strikeouts.
