Berlin High School Business Teacher Karen Deiana chose Jennifer Gundrum as this year’s 2010 Outstanding Business Education student. This honor is awarded to a student for academic achievement, outstanding citizenship and positive attitude.

HFCS Softball Team Wins Second Straight Class CC Sectional Championship

They say only teams win championships. And never was that more apparent than Wednesday afternoon, June 2, when Charlie Weeden’s Hoosick Falls Central School Panther softball team put it all together for the second consecutive year and beat fellow WASAREN League foe Hoosic Valley Central School 8-0 in a dominating display of teamwork, pitching, offense and defense. In walking off the softball field at one of Clifton Commons multiple fields, this Panther bunch had much to be proud of in claiming their second straight Section 2, Class CC title.

Panther Baseball: WASAREN League Champs

HFCS Lacrosse Club: The New Team In Town

The HFCS lacrosse team is a “club,” meaning it cannot play any Section 2 member interscholastic team and all its contests are considered scrimmages. The team is maintained by the players’ and parents’ fund raising efforts only. The team had a 10 game schedule playing Massachusetts, Vermont and New York teams not recognized by Section 2.

St. Mary’s Academy Funtastic Fair
St. Mary’s Academy’s Annual Funtastic Fair is next weekend, June 11 and 12. This year marks the Fair’s 35th anniversary, and, along with the traditional games and attractions, there will be rides for young and old from Amyland Amusements, our own version of the popular game show “Minute to Win It” and inside spaces for vendors. The fee for vendor spaces is just $20 for both days of the Fair.
The Fair runs on Friday from 5 to 10 pm and on Saturday from noon until 10 pm. Call the school at 686-4314 ext. 202 for more information on vendor spaces or if you would like to sponsor a booth in memory of a loved one or your SMA graduating class.
HFCS Prelicensing Course
The NYS 5 hour Prelicensing Course is being offered at Hoosick Falls Central School on Thursday, June 10. Successful completion of the course is needed for obtaining a NYS driver’s license. A valid learner’s permit and $35 cash and is needed. Registration begins at 4:30 pm that evening in the High School office. Class begins promptly at 5 pm and is completed that evening. Leadership Advisory Committee Takes Action

Shortly after the BOE meeting adjourned last Wednesdsay, Tom Morelli, began organizing the leadership advisory committee. Because a second budget proposal is due May 26, the Committee’s first priority is to develop a more viable budget. But a number of peripheral objectives are also on the committee’s agenda, such as establishing a long term financial plan, evaluating the attractiveness of keeping Grafton open and searching for a permanent superintendant. While developing an amended budget under this time constraint seemed formidable, many were optimistic. As Morgan Hartman, a local resident, put it, “If people have the will to succeed, they can achieve a great deal.”

HFCS Be Smart, Be Safe Lesson Aired On Channel 13

HFCS Senior Girls received a powerful lesson on life in the outside world Wednesday, May 19, from Physical Education teacher Lisa Ferrannini and Health teacher Colleen Corcoran. Elaine Houston of Channel 13 television observed the session and put together a piece on it that aired Thursday evening, May 20, as part of her Today’s Women series.
