The Berlin Central School District Health Council is sponsoring their Third Annual Health Fair on Wednesday, May 20, from 11 am to 7 pm. The Fair will be held at the Berlin Jr./Sr. High School in Cherry Plain and is open to the community from 3 to 7 pm.

Petitions for candidates running for the Hoosick Falls School Board were due this week. The District Clerk received two, so there will be two candidates on the ballot running for two open seats. Laurie Gormley is running for re-election, and Ryerson N. Mausert 3rd is running for election to the School Board as well. Greg Laurin, whose term is expiring, declined to run for another term.

Two seats on the Berlin School Board are up for election on May 19. The candidates were announced at the Board’s regular monthly meeting on Monday. The seat now held by Don French will be contested by John Nash of Grafton and Gina Goodermote of Stephentown. Julie Darling is running for reelection and she will be opposed by John Greene of Berlin. Both positions are for three-year terms.
The proposed 2009-2010 school budget includes funding for a district-wide pre-kindergarten (pre-k) program for resident children who reach the age of four on or before December 1, 2009. Transportation for the program will be provided for all eligible pre-k students by the School District.

Ziti Dinner
The Berlin Middle School Student Council will be hosting its Second Annual Ziti Dinner. Come join us Friday, April 24, at the Berlin Middle/High School cafeteria for a homemade ziti dinner (vegetarian or meat). Dinner includes drinks and dessert.
The Stephentown Memorial Library is offering one scholarship this year in the amount of $750 to a graduating senior who plans to enter a two or four year college in the fall of 2009. The student must be a resident of Stephentown. [Read more…] about Stephentown Library Scholarship

The Berlin School Board adopted a budget for 2009-10 with a zero tax levy increase but not all members were happy with it. Interim Business Administrator Scott Hunter presented the fifth draft of the budget Tuesday evening. It was adopted on a 4-3 vote with Frank Zwack, Jeffrey Paine, Liz Miller and Julie Darling supporting it and Tom Morelli, Don French and Beverly Stewart voting no.
