Sale Of The Former Grafton Elementary School Takes Another Step Forward

Represented by local surveyor Fred Haley, the Berlin Central School District brought a revised sub division proposal before the Grafton Town Planning Board Monday night.  The changes encompassed the guidelines set down by the Planning Board at its December meeting, that all the open land on the property be conveyed to the proposed buyer, not just the parking lot and a buffer around the building.  [Read more…] about Grafton Planning Board Action

Boys Suffer Heartbreaking Loss, Swim Team Ties Taconic Hills

Berlin’s Girls High School Basketball team posted a pair of Central Hudson Valley League wins this past week.  Wednesday they used a balanced scoring attack to take down Doane Stuart by a 55 to 39 score.  Tiffany Foley lead the way with 19 points, Maggie Gordon followed with 15 while Cassie Bentley scored another 12.  Berlin coach Fleda Berschwinger described it as “a very good team victory.”  The Lady Mountaineers were back on the court the next night against Hawthorne Valley.  The Wildcats have struggled all year and their game against Berlin was no different.   Berlin led all the way in posting a 50-13 victory.  Maggie Gordon led all scorers with 23 points. HFCS Bowling Team Ends Season With 4-0 Win Over Corinth

The Hoosick Falls bowling team finished their regular season league matches with a 4-0 win over Corinth from the Northern Division of the Adirondack League.  Hoosick Falls finished the regular season with a point total of 48-0 in the league and a overall match record of 13-1 while Corinth finished with a league point total of 31-25. HF Hands Stillwater First Defeat, 59 – 57, in OT

Alex Mendez scored 24 points, including six in the overtime, to lead the Panthers to a huge win over the previously undefeated Stillwater Warriors Friday evening. The win kept Hoosick Falls in contention for a third straight Wasaren League title, with a little help from a Stillwater opponent. The Panthers are one game behind Stillwater and tied with Mechanicville for second place. Stillwater plays Mechanicville on Feb. 5 at home, the best chance for a Stillwater loss. The Lady Panthers held on to first place in the Wasaren League as they soundly defeated two league foes over the past week. The Panthers stand at 10-1 in league play, with a 14-2 record overall. Hoosic Valley is a game behind at 9-2 (L). Tamarac (8-3), Cambridge (7-40, Stillwater (5-6), Mechanicville (3-8), Greenwich (2-9), and Granville (0-11) round out the teams. Panthers Lose At Buzzer

The Lady Panthers had one slip away last Friday when Hoosic Valley sank a shot with less than one second left. The Indians headed back to Schaghticoke with a big win. The league leading Panthers got sloppy in the waning minutes to help the Indians cause. Hoosic Valley scored 13 points off turnovers, almost half their total, to the Pathers seven. HFCS Boys Basketball Wins Two

Hoosic Valley HS,1/15. With the Hoosic Valley suffering through an off year after competing in state championship competition for the past couple years, the Panthers easily defeated the Indians. Both teams started slowly, with HF outscoring the Indians, 5 – 4 in the first quarter. From there, the Panthers outscored the Indians 30 – 12, with the Indians only scoring in double figures in the fourth quarter, after the game was decided.
