Friday, January 15, 1841: Today Sarah is taken sick.

Saturday: I and my two sons went into my swamp and chopped and drew a load of wood home and towards night I went up to Calvin P. Sackett’s. Doctor Elijah Graves was there to doctor his wife and I had said Doctor Graves come home with me to doctor my daughter Sarah. We found that she had the canker rash and scarlet fever. My children went to singing school in my double wagon to Capt. Abner Bull’s.

Thursday: Today some stormy and today I repaired my bobsled. Monday, February 1: Today I took the two horse sleigh and carried my wife and Charlotte to the funeral of the wife of Old Elijah Goodrich to the Seventh Day Baptist meeting house. I called to Hiram W. Brown’s to see Squ Leland Sheldon to have him not collect the cost against Wm. Chapman that I had made on the suit that went in my favor. Tonight quite a snow storm.

Tuesday: Today I took the two horse sleigh and my wife with me with about four hundred weight cheese and nearly noon we started for Troy. We carried Angeline along to Mr. Juni Chittendon’s and left her on a visit. We went to Mr. Henry Withees and stayed tonight at Sand Lake.

Wednesday: This morning quite a snow squall and about nine o’clock we started for Troy. The remainder of my cheese I sold in Troy in Congress St to Mr. nearly two cwt weight of skin cheese at four dollars per cwt and the remainder in late made new milk cheese at six dol per cwt. The whole came to nearly eighteen dollars. We then went onto River Street and my wife sold 13 pair of socks at 37 cts. We left Troy at half past three o’clock and returned to Sand Lake to Mr. Henry Withees and stayed.

Saturday: This afternoon Mr. Bush called and took tea and this evening my children went to singing school to Abner Bull’s.

Sunday: Tonight my children went to singing school to Abner Bull’s with a cutter and the singing master Mr. Spear and the wife of cousin Samuel Holcomb came home with them and stayed with us on a visit.
