Rose M. Liporace

Hoosick Falls – Rose M. Liporace, 94, passed away on Wednesday, November 2, 2011, at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington, VT.
Born on July 7, 1917, in Pittsfield, MA, she was the daughter of the late Phillipo and Josa (Metallo) Graniero. Rose received her education in Pittsfield where she met her husband Joseph Liporace, who pre-deceased her. They moved to Hoosick Falls, NY, where she later opened the Charm Shop. Rose loved to dance and was an avid bowler and bridge player.

Genevieve Valentine

Hoosick Falls – Genevieve Valentine, 67, passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2011, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, NY. She had resided on Church Street in Hoosick Falls, NY.
Born on June 24, 1944, in Hoosick Falls, Genevieve was the daughter of the late George and Jennie (Russell) Valentine. She attended schools in Hoosick Falls and was employed at Stanley Tools in Shaftsbury, VT, for thirty years. Genevieve enjoyed shopping, dancing, traveling and, most of all, spending time with family and friends.

Galway – Debra L. Anthony, 52, of Galway, NY, passed away Sunday, November 6, 2011. Born in Cambridge, NY, April 25, 1959, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Lillian Elwell. Debbie was a teacher’s aide at Joseph Henry Elementary School in Galway. She was a caregiver and helped many children and elderly people in the area. Debbie and her family were close knit, and she enjoyed family gatherings.

Cora V. Morgan

Bennington – Mrs. Cora V.  Morgan, 87, a resident of River Street, Bennington, VT, died peacefully at her home on Wednesday November 2, 2011. Mrs. Morgan was born in Center Shaftsbury, VT, on October 22, 1924. She was the last surviving of ten children born to Myron and Leona McDonald. Beacon Files For Bankruptcy – Stephentown Plant Remains Operational

Beacon Power’s frequency regulation plant in Stephentown is still running, but the company has filed for bankruptcy.
On Sunday, October 31, the parent company along with its subsidiaries, Stephentown Holding LLC and Stephentown Regulation Services LLC, requested relief under Chapter 11 in U.S. Bankruptcy Court, District of Delaware. Total assets were listed as $72 million and total debts as $47 million. The company has asked permission to use cash collateral assets to facilitate restructuring and to continue operating during bankruptcy proceedings

Three Races For Office In Hoosick

Incumbent Republican Keith Cipperly is running for a second term as Hoosick Town Supervisor. He is opposed by former Hoosick Falls Mayor Democrat Laura Reynolds. Democrat Bob Ryan is seeking his eleventh term as Hoosick Councilman and Republican Mark Surdam is seeking his third term. They are opposed by first time Republican candidate Bruce Patire and former Hoosick Falls Village Trustee Democrat Marie O’Neil. Town Justice Dick Whalen is running unopposed.

Four Seats Contested In Grafton Election

It’s been a very active political season in Grafton this year. Four positions in Town government are being contested – Town Supervisor, two Council seats and the Town Justice post.
The Supervisor’s race pits current Republican Supervisor Tyler Sawyer (appointed by the Town Board after Allison Kirchner resigned last spring) against Democratic nominee Ray Darling.

Robert Jaeger – Town Supervisor (D,R,C,I)
Robert Jaeger is seeking a third term as Town Supervisor in Berlin. After serving in Vietnam, Jaeger graduated from the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan and had a long career as a commercial artist for various manufacturers of health care products, including S. S. White in Staten Island, Sterling Drug in East Greenbush and Becton Dickenson in Connecticut. Jaeger and his wife, Kathy, are both currently licensed brokers with Prudential real estate, and Jaeger also drives a school bus for the Berlin Central School District. Prior to serving as Town Supervisor, Jaeger served on the Town’s Zoning Board.
