New Lebanon Candidate Profiles

The Town of New Lebanon goes to the polls next Tuesday and to help readers make informed decisions at the ballots the Eastwick Press has compiled the profiles, in their own words, of a number of the candidates running. Not every candidate running is listed as not every candidate or their party responded to requests for information.
The big race this election season is between the incumbent Town Supervisor, Margaret Robertson, and newcomer Mike Benson.

Petersburgh Candidate Profiles

There are no contested elections in Petersburgh. Peter Schaaphok is not running for re-election as Supervisor, and the Republican Party has nominated Siegfried Krahforst for the job. Richard Snyder is running for re-election to the Town Board, and he shares the ballot with newcomer David Alderman, also running for a Town Council seat. Bob Sears declined to run for re-election as Town Justice, and Amy Manchester is running for that office. Emily Harrison is running for re-election as the Town’s Tax Collector.

Panthers Go To Third Consecutive Super Bowl

The Hoosick Falls football team stamped its ticket to a third straight Class C Super Bowl on Saturday, overcoming injuries to put away Watervliet 34-8 in the semifinal game at Stillwater High School. The Panthers will now take on Fonda in the Class C Super Bowl on Saturday night at 7 pm at Stillwater.

Panthers’ Boys Soccer Run Comes to End

The Hoosick Falls boys soccer team’s amazing sectional run came to a tough end on Wednesday night in Johnstown at the hands of #1 seed Maple Hill. The #13 seeded Panthers did not go quietly though, fighting until the bitter end, hoping for yet another upset. The Panther defense, anchored by goalie Cody Gaines, played a great game, holding one of the top offensive teams in Section II scoreless for 66 minutes before the Wildcats scored.

Panther Boys Soccer Upsets #5 Seed Waterford

The Hoosick Falls boys soccer team continued its late season run in Monday’s Class C quarterfinal sectional game. The red hot Panthers, seeded #13 entering sectionals, have already knocked off #4 Galway in penalty kicks in the first round. In the quarterfinals Hoosick Falls was matched up against #5 seed Waterford from the CHVL.

FCCLA Fall Fund-Raisers

On Election Day, November 8, Berlin FCCLA parents will be selling chili and cornbread for $4. Beverages will be available for $1. This event will be held at the Berlin Fire House from noon to 7 pm.
FCCLA  is also baking Thanksgiving Rolls for $3 a dozen.  Orders need to be placed by Friday, November 18.  You can send your orders by email to dmosher@berlincentral.org or send an order form to Dianne Mosher at the Berlin High School.  Orders will be available for pick up on Tuesday, November 22, or Wednesday, November 23.

The Grafton Budget – A Response To A Response

I would like to clarify for the record a few of the comments Democratic Chairman Bill Middleton and Committee Member Doug LaRocue made in last week’s [the October 18, 2011 issue] Eastwick Press on my budget statement.
First, he mentioned my “budgets over the last few years.” I have not been involved in any of the budgets in the last four years. That was done by our past Supervisor Allison Kirchner. My last budget was for 2008 and that budget marked my ninth consecutive budget that property taxes were cut or held for Grafton residents.
