Letter To The Editor – Pondering The Grafton Budget

To the editor:
Here are some questions one can ponder about our Town Budget.
1. Why do the Grafton Town Council members get paid ($250) per month, twice as much as Petersburgh and Berlin ($125) for attending one meeting a month. Is it allegiance to the Republican Town Chairman (Supervisor). Who voted on the salaries?
2. Why does Grafton have a Bookkeeper at $12,500 a year when Petersburgh and Berlin do not even have a budget line for the position.

Hoosick Grange News

It was Grange night on October 26. Master David Cornell conducted the business meeting. After reports from the different committees, David was also in charge of the Lecturer’s program. His theme was Halloween. This is the time for fall colors, red and black. David gave out papers with the word Halloween, and we had to make as many words out of it as possible. This is a time of parties and trick or treat, lots of games and bobbing for apples. He told us about black cats, witches, bats, spiders and Count Dracula. Halloween is also known as All Hallows Eve. Election Day Charlie Dogs And A Dinner At Petersburgh Veterans Memorial Community Center

Mini Hot Dogs with Charlie Sauce will be on sale at the PVMCC on November 8, Election Day, from 10 am to 4:30 pm. Take out is available.
A spaghetti supper will be served from 4:30 to 7 pm at the PVMCC. Adults will be charged $8, children 6-12, $5; children under age 5 eat for free. For more information call 658-3788 or 283-5397.
Election day food is sponsored by the Petersburgh Methodist Church.

Berlin Fire Department Breakfast

On Sunday, November 6, from 7 to 11 am, the Berlin Fire Department will be holding its fresh, hot off the griddle monthly breakfast. For your eating pleasure we include all-you-can-eat pancakes, French toast, biscuits for our homemade sausage gravy, sausage and bacon, toast, home fries and eggs (scrambled, sunny side, over easy or over hard).  Beverage choices include coffee, tea, (both decaf available), hot chocolate, milk and orange juice.

Petersburgh Veterans Memorial Community Center Events

Veterans Dinner
On November 11 the Petersburgh Veterans Memorial Community Center is hosting a potluck dinner in recognition of our veterans. Please bring your favorite potluck dish and join us for dinner and music from 5:30 to 8 pm.
Contra Dance
There will be a contra dance at the PVMCC on November 12 from 7 to 9:30 pm. Don’t worry if you haven’t done it before; they teach you at a nice pace, and it is lots of fun. The cost is $8 per person, free for those under 18 courtesy of the Stewart’s grant.

Greenway Approves $10,000 Grant For Rensselaer Plateau Study

Mark Castiglione, Acting Executive Director of the Hudson River Valley Greenway, announced the approval of a $10,000 Greenway matching grant to the Town of Nassau, a Greenway Community, for the development of a regional economic impact study of the Rensselaer Plateau region.
