Hoosick Falls Girl Scout Disney Camp

The Sports complex at Hoosac School will once again host the Hoosick Falls Girl Scout camp this year on August 1 through August 5. Its sports field will be full of Disney-themed activities including Mickey, Donald, Princesses, Animal and Pixar movie crafts, games and other activities. Along with these activities there also will be hiking in the near by trials and other sport activities.

Shaker Yankees/Red Sox Dream Package Raffle

The Shaker Museum and Library is raffling off a spectacular Yankees/Red Sox dream baseball package. The package includes four front row seats at Yankee Stadium in Champion’s Suite, Section 12 on September 23. Game time is 7 pm. Hoosick Falls Girl Scouts Selling At Wednesday Band Concerts

Girl Scouts of Hoosick Falls will be selling cookies, freeze pops and lemonade at the Community Band Concerts this summer; all proceeds will be benefit local Girl Scout programs and events and help with repairs to the bandstand gazebo. The Girl Scout booth will be staffed by a different troop each week.

New Lebanon Farmers Market Special Event

The New Lebanon Farmers Market will feature a special event on July 17 – live music by Shirley Buckleshiner of New Orleans. There will also be an ice cream social. The market boasts baked goods, fresh coffee, tomatoes, cucumbers, local grains, raw milk cheese, pastured and whey fed meats, soaps and over 18 vendors. The market, held Sundays from 10 am to 2 pm, is located at Routes 20 and 22 (501 Route 20) in the center of New Lebanon.

Hoosick Falls Cans For Cancer

Please help a great cause!  Terri Burdick, member of the Hoosier Hopefuls Relay for Life team, is collecting cans and  bottles for cancer (American Cancer Society) all year-round.  Call her for pick-up at 686-7851 or leave cans and bottles at the Nickelback Redemption Center on lower Carey Avenue in Hoosick Falls, and add them to our account.  When bringing your own collection, why not drop a few into our fund?  We’d appreciate it!

Stephentown Texas Hold’em

The Veterans of Stephentown  and the Stephentown Fire Department will sponsor a joint Texas Hold’em Tournament on Saturday, July 16, in the Stephentown Fire Hall, located on Grange Hall Road in Stephentown. The doors will open at 5 pm and close at 6 pm. Play begins at 6:15 sharp.

Hoosic River Watershed Association Summer Excursions

Saturday July 16 – A re-enactment of Henry David Thoreau’s hike up Mt. Greylock. One-way participants should meet at the north gate of the Reservation at 9 am to arrange a shuttle or 10 am if they are planning to hike a loop that includes returning by the Bernard Farm Trail. We will stop to read pertinent passages from “A Week on the Concord and Merrimack Rivers” on the way up. This steep climb and return, an 11 mile round trip, will take 5 hours; bring lunch and water and wear appropriate shoes. More info at 413-499-4262 or www.massparks.org.  Co-sponsored by the Mass. Saturday August 20 – Seventh Annual Hoosic River Ride. Southern Vermont College, Bennington, VT. Four scenic route options that traverse primarily secondary roads with great views, historic landmarks and covered bridges. Well-stocked aid stations along the way, and well-marked routes and cue sheets. EMT support at all aid stations and at the registration area. Roving tech support on each route. Post-ride picnic will start at 11:30 and run until 3  pm. Visit www.hoorwa.org for information on registering. Register by August 1 to receive $10 off your registration fee.
Sunday  August 21
HooRWA board member John Case will lead a canoe/kayak trip from the Eagle Bridge River Access to the Johnsonville Dam, about seven miles.  Participants should gather at the Williams Inn in Williamstown at 10 a.m. or meet at the Eagle Bridge Access at 10:30 a.m.  This canoe access is on the right heading west just beyond the village of Eagle Bridge on Route 67. This trip will involve a car shuttle to the Johnsonville Dam, so some paddlers should be prepared to make the drive down to the dam.  Please pack a lunch, PDFs, and warm clothing.  This trip is Class I flat water backed up by the dam.  Please John know by August 17 if you plan to paddle. 250th Anniversary Of Cambridge Patent

In honor and in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the Cambridge Patent, the towns of White Creek, Cambridge and Jackson, as well as the Village of Cambridge, will hold a day long series of events on Saturday, July 23.  The 1761 Committee and the Cambridge Historical Society and Museum have been working together to organize this celebration with many activities and exhibits planned for the public to enjoy. The Museum will be open at 10  am on that day with special exhibits and tours.
