High school seniors who live in the Town of Grafton are invited to apply for the Ethel Simmons Memorial Award. This award of $300 is awarded to the graduating senior who submits the winning essay on some aspect of Grafton history. Public, private and home school students are eligible to apply. The award is sponsored jointly by the Grafton Community Library and the Grafton Historical Society in memory of Mrs. Simmons. She was a teacher in Grafton, Librarian, Sunday school teacher and 4-H leader with a great love of her community and its history.

Lebanon Valley Woman’s Club Meeting
The Lebanon Valley Woman’s Club will hold its regular monthly meeting on April 8 at 12:30 pm at the Congregational Church in New Lebanon, Rt.20/22. The guest speaker will be Mary Linton, RN. She will discuss the pros and cons of taking additional vitamins and minerals. The presentation will include a description of the major functions of various vitamin groups and the importance of certain minerals for maintaining good health. A light lunch will be served.

West Hoosick FD Pancake Breakfast Is On Saturday, April 16
The West Hoosick Fire Department announces an “All You Can Eat” Breakfast at the Firehouse on Saturday, April 16, from 7:30 to 11 am. The menu includes pancakes, French toast, eggs, sausage, bacon, toast, juice, coffee, tea and hot chocolate.
To start off the year we decided to try holding our first breakfast on a Saturday, please come and join us. The firehouse is located on Pine Valley Road near the intersection of County Routes 109 and 103. For more information, please call the Firehouse at 686-1814.
Food For Fines At The New Lebanon Library
Put your library fines to work for the community. During National Library Week, April 11-16, the New Lebanon Library will exchange food for fines. Fines for overdue materials (regardless of amount) will be cleared from your record at a rate of one fine for one food item donated. Only overdue items – not lost or damaged items – are eligible.
Unopened and unexpired cans, jars, boxed and packaged foods are welcome. Perishable items cannot be accepted.
All food donations will be forwarded to Charlie’s Pantry for distribution to needy families in and around New Lebanon. So celebrate Thanksgiving by clearing your conscience and benefiting your community at the same time.
St. Mary’s Academy Offers Lenten Friday Fish Fry Dinners
The word is out that our Fish Fry is Fabulous! We sold out last week, but we will have plenty of fish on hand this week for St. Mary’s Academy Lenten Friday Fish Fry. Only two more weeks to taste what you’ve been missing! Dinners are served at the Immaculate Conception Church Hall in Hoosick Falls from 5 to 7 pm or until sold out. Fish Fry dinners cost $9 and include hand battered fish fry on a roll, French fries, homemade coleslaw, dessert, your choice of homemade cocktail sauce or tartar sauce and a $1 coupon for a future fish fry dinner. New this year, macaroni and cheese dinners are offered for $5. There is plenty of seating for the whole family to eat in, or take-outs are available. Call the school at 686-4314 for more information.
Stephentown Youth Commission Annual Easter Egg Hunt
The Stephentown Youth Commission Annual Easter Egg Hunt for Stephentown residents will take place on Saturday, April 23, at 12:30 pm at the Stephentown Firemen’s Pavilion on Grange Hall Road.
This event, for pre-k through fifth-graders will be held entirely outdoors so please dress appropriately. Don’t forget your Easter basket to collect your treats. The Easter Bunny will be hopping around! Adult supervision is required.

Petersburgh Library Needs Donations
Mark your calendars! The Petersburgh Public Library will be holding its annual Plant, Book and Bake Sale on Saturday, May 21, from 9 am to 1 pm. Generous donations of plants, books and baked goods will be gratefully accepted the day prior or morning of the sale. If needed, pots will be available at the Library to assist with the transport of donated plants.
Reading And Book Signing At The New Lebanon Library
On Thursday, April 14, at 7 pm New Lebanon author I. Alexander Olchowski will read from his book, The Commodity of Love, at the New Lebanon Library. The reading will be followed by Q&A, discussion and a book signing.
The novel is about a poet turned heart surgeon who convinces himself he has given all his love away, so he makes one desperate and extreme attempt to get it all back.
