Stephentown Town Board Action – Special Meetings, Action On Budget Postponed

The Stephentown Town Board has appointed Bill Jennings to serve out the term of a Board seat left vacant last year after Larry Eckhardt was elected Town Supervisor. Learning that Board Members Mark Prescott and PJ Roder would not be available to participate in the regular November Board meeting scheduled for this past Monday, which would mean no quorum, the Board called a special meeting on Sunday and appointed Jennings to serve until the end of the year. In January he will begin serving the term to which he was elected on November 2.

Pittstown Historical Society Receives Grant For National Register Farmstead Documentation

On Monday afternoon, November 8, Erin Tobin, the Preservation League Regional Director of Technical and Grant Programs in western New York presented the Pittstown Historical Society with a Grant for $7,500. This grant will support the preparation of a National Register Multiple Resource Documentation Form for historic Pittstown farmsteads and may get recognized buildings on the National Historic Register. A majority of the documented farmstead owners attended the meeting in the Historic Barns of Nipmoose in Buskirk.

Petersburgh Town Board Action – The 2011 Budget Site Plan Revisions

The Petersburgh Town Board held a rather brief meeting on Monday, November 15, in which it approved the 2011 budget.

Hoosick Grange Seals Presented
Last Wednesday, on November 10, Hoosick Grangers and families had a delicious turkey dinner. Helen Filkins was Chairman of the dinner with her assistants Louise Ciuk and Mary Remancus. After grace was said Grangers just pitched in and served the dinner and cleaned up afterward.

Red Storm Rains Down On Panthers’ State Title Quest

A 32-yard field goal in overtime by Saranac Lake’s Forrest Morgan sealed the win in last Saturday’s Class C Regional Final against Class C Section II Super Bowl Champs Hoosick Falls Panthers.
The Panthers held a solid lead throughout most of the game with scores by quarterback Mike Brewster and receiver Quinn Rasmus before halftime.

BCS Fall Sports Awards

Ten Berlin Middle/High School Fall sports teams were honored Wednesday with certificates and awards. Athletic Director Art Schmich started the program by thanking all his coaches, bus drivers, maintenance workers and the parents for a well run season.

Good Bye Mister Chick

A resolution commending Ron Cicchinelli upon his retirement from Troy High School was passed in October by the Rensselaer County Legislature, and the presentation was made before the regular meeting on Tuesday, November 9.
Ron Cicchinelli is retiring from Troy High School as an American History teacher. He was originally from Waterford and attended Siena College as well as Russell Sage College. Cicchinelli, known to most of his students as Mr. Chick, began his teaching and coaching career nearly four decades ago and retired with many fond memories throughout his career from Keveny, Catholic Central High School, Rensselaer, Hoosick Falls Central School, Bishop Gibbons and most recently Troy High School.

Halloween At The Hoosick Falls Health Center
On Halloween students from St. Mary’s Academy visited the Hoosick Falls Health Center and paraded through the facility showing residents, staff and visitors some very scary, funny and beautiful costumes. Residents and staff handed out treats as they said goodbye.
