Softball Tryouts
The Bennington Bandits summer softball team will hold open tryouts on Saturday October. 23 from 10 am. to Noon at Upper Willow Park. Any girls who are under age 17 as of January 1, 2011 and are willing to commit to playing a full schedule with the Bandits are eligible to participate.

Grantseeking Basics With Foundation Directory Online
The Stephentown Memorial Library will host a free workshop on grantseeking basics for nonprofit organizations on Thursday, October 28, from 3 to 5 pm. The Grantseeking Basics session will be led by Kief Schladweiler, Coordinator of Cooperating Collections with the Foundation Center (http://foundationcenter.org). Kids Halloween Dance
The North Hoosick Fire Department will sponsor its Annual Halloween Kids Dance on Friday, October 22, from 7 to 10:30 pm at the fire station on Rt. 22. Students ages 9 to 14 and who attend Hoosick Falls Central, Cambridge Central or St. Mary’s Academy are invited to attend this event. Prizes for the best five costumes will be awarded. Costumes are optional.
Stephen Kellar Benefit Concert
Friends of Stephen Kellar, a life long Berlin resident, are hosting a Benefit Concert on Saturday, October 23, beginning at 4:30 pm at the Stephentown Fire Department Fire Hall, 25 Grange Hall Road, Stephentown. The Stephentown Youth Commission Halloween Party & Pumpkin Contest is on Saturday, October 30, from 4 to 5 pm at the Stephentown Town Hall located on Grange Hall Road. Bring your carved, decorated, or painted pumpkin to be judged in our pumpkin contest! Halloween costumes are welcome. Refreshments will be served and parent supervision is required.
Stephentown Extra Helpings
The ordering date for November bundles from the Extra Helpings Community Food Buying Club in Stephentown is Thursday, October 28, from 3:30 to 6 pm at the Stephentown Federated Church on Garfield Road. The Extra Helpings program is part of the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York. It allows anyone to buy nutritious food at lower-than-retail prices. There are no limits on age, income, number of bundles or geography so all smart shoppers are welcome and encouraged to participate.

Benefit Spaghetti And Meatball Dinner
The North Hoosick Fire Department will sponsor a benefit spaghetti and meatball dinner on Saturday, November 6, at the firehouse on Rt 22. Serving time will be from 5 to 7 pm. The dinner will benefit David Sorel of Sorel’s Diner who was injured in a motorcycle accident a few months ago. Tickets are now available by calling Alan Bornt at 378-4538 or Butch Conway at 686-5175. Tickets can be purchased at the door and take-outs will also be available.
Map and Compass Program
Gain confidence in hiking by taking the “Basic Map and Compass” program at the Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center on Saturday, October 30, from 10 am to 2 pm. This workshop will provide people with an outdoor field experience to understand the basics of interpreting topographical maps, using a compass and putting them both together to navigate off trail. Pre-registration is required and can be done by contacting dykenpond@fairpoint.net or 518-658-2055. The fee is $10 or $8 for members.
