Back-2-School Boost Is An Overwhelming Success

Just in time for opening day of school, parents and students picked up backpacks filled with supplies on Saturday morning at the HACA Center on John Street. Letter To The Editor – Neither Snow Nor Rain…Really?

To the Editor:
On June 30, 2010, we received a folded/stapled paper in our mailbox. This letter was sent by the Postmaster of the Stephentown Post Office. It informed us that the Post Office was “making us aware of hazards and unsafe conditions in the approach of our mailbox and roads.” This letter continued to state that “they value our safety and the safety of our letter carriers.” Also, “The Post Office is very concerned about the condition of your road.” The letter ends, “If we do not have this issue resolved by July 30, 2010, we have no choice but to hold your mail at the Post Office. To the Editor: (submitted August 3, 2010)
We were pleased to receive the Judgment and Order by the Town of Petersburgh Court dismissing all of the allegations against us by the Petersburgh Planning Board. At the advice of legal counsel we have not commented publicly regarding the private matter of Star Ridge Way, but the Town Court’s recent ruling affords us the opportunity to clarify a number of facts surrounding this issue.

HFCS Golf Team Wins First Two Matches

Hoosick Falls Central School Golf Coach Pam Hatfield is pleased that her team is doing so well at the start of the season. On Tuesday, August 31, they golfed against Hoosic Valley on their home course, the Battenkill Country Club. In the match play HF’s Jordan Colvin was even with HV’s Kevin White. HF’s Kealan Hitt was 1 up on HV’s Frank Acker. HF’s Todd Rogers, 2-1 over HV’s Matt Espey. HF’s James Lynch was 3-1 against HV’s Ryan Heslin. HF’s Mitchell Andrew was 4-3 over HV’s John Houston. The victory belonged to Hoosick Falls, 3½ to ½.

Hoosick Grange had election of officers on Wednesday, August 25. David Cornell was re-elected as Master/President. All other officers agreed to take their positions. The Fair Committee gave their report as well as other officers reported.

HFCS PTA Kicks Off 2010-2011 Year

The Hoosick Falls Central School Parent Teacher Association (PTA), a group of involved, caring and committed moms, dads, grandmas, grandpas, teachers, administrators and alumni, is underway with the new school year. PTA has been active all summer preparing for the year, and they are helping to ease students and teachers back to school at open houses and other activities.

Eberly Brothers At The Grafton Historical Society

The Grafton Historical Society’s September meeting will be held at the Grafton Town Hall on September 15 at 7 pm.
The Society will host Charles Filkens, Curator of the Lewis Miller Museum in the Town of Hoosick. Filkens will present a DVD video program on the Eberly Brothers, big band era singers who sang with the Glen Miller Orchestra and the Dorsey Brothers and who hailed from Hoosick Falls.
