Monday, August 22, 1853: John F. continues lame with boils. Today Russel Palmer bought six sheep at 15 dollars and paid nine and owes six dollars.
Tuesday, August 30: Today John F. went to Pittsfield with one and a half bushel plums, one bushel apples and five small cheeses and a pail of butter. He got about ten dollars for the whole. Today while John F. was to Pittsfield he trusted his suncle F. Jay Wylie for two small cheeses. They weighed 18½ pounds at seven cts per pound, which was 1.29 cts.

HFCS Softball Exceeds Expectations, Loses Close State Finals Game

Saturday, June 12, was a day of highs and lows for the HFCS Softball team. The high came in the morning semifinal matchup with Gananda (25-1) in the NYS Class C Softball Championship Final Four in Waterloo. Hoosick Falls took that game 3-2. Rachel Quackenbush pitched 11 strikeouts.

BCS Budget Passes; Gregory Resigns

The amended Berlin Central School District budget passed by a vote of 603-252. The main feature of the new budget was its 0% tax levy. This figure was realized chiefly because no modular units will be added to Berlin Elementary. While the Proposition to purchase a 58 passenger handicap accessible bus passed (469 – 379), the Proposition to approve a $100k capital improvement project failed (436-415).
The budget passed, but there was still plenty of tumult at the BOE meeting. After a 1½ hour executive session, the BOE approved a resolution that featured the resignation of Superintendant of Schools Charlotte Gregory. Her term, accordingly, will end on June 30.

History Of The Stephentown Center Post Office

The Stephentown Center Post Office was established on October 31, 1877 and was in continuous service up to September of 1980. At that time, Marion Schmich, who died last month, retired as Postmaster and the Stephentown Center Post Office retired along with her. Berlin Town Board Action – Berlin Lumber Referendum Set For July 19

Berlin Town Supervisor Rob Jaeger announced at the Town Board meeting on Thursday, June 10, that the referendum on the Berlin Lumber purchase will be held on Monday, July 19, from noon to 8 pm in the Town Hall. Absentee ballots for the referendum can be picked up at the Town Clerk’s office or requested in writing.  July 9 was chosen as the last date to request an absentee ballot since they must be returned by the 19th.

Hoosick Town Board Action – Local Law Passes, Another Set For Next Month

During the regular monthly meeting of the Hoosick Town Board on Tuesday, June 15, and after closing the Public Hearing, the Board approved Local Law #1 for 2010. The new law changes the length of time the Zoning Board of Appeals has to transmit a copy of a special permit application to the Planning Board from 30 days to 12 days. If the Planning Board does not submit an advisory opinion, “It shall be interpreted as a recommendation that the special permit be granted.” The law shall take effect immediately after filing with the Secretary of State. The Town Board had consulted with the Planning and Zoning Boards before implementing this change.
