Berlin High School Business Teacher Karen Deiana chose Jennifer Gundrum as this year’s 2010 Outstanding Business Education student. This honor is awarded to a student for academic achievement, outstanding citizenship and positive attitude.

HFCS Softball Team Wins Second Straight Class CC Sectional Championship

They say only teams win championships. And never was that more apparent than Wednesday afternoon, June 2, when Charlie Weeden’s Hoosick Falls Central School Panther softball team put it all together for the second consecutive year and beat fellow WASAREN League foe Hoosic Valley Central School 8-0 in a dominating display of teamwork, pitching, offense and defense. In walking off the softball field at one of Clifton Commons multiple fields, this Panther bunch had much to be proud of in claiming their second straight Section 2, Class CC title.

Panther Baseball: WASAREN League Champs

HFCS Lacrosse Club: The New Team In Town

The HFCS lacrosse team is a “club,” meaning it cannot play any Section 2 member interscholastic team and all its contests are considered scrimmages. The team is maintained by the players’ and parents’ fund raising efforts only. The team had a 10 game schedule playing Massachusetts, Vermont and New York teams not recognized by Section 2.

Hoosick Grange News
Hoosick Grange met on May 26, with Master David Cornell. David Schmidt, our Grange Legislative Chairman, gave a report on the Legislative Conference, he attended. The conference was held in Albany County at Ravenna Grange. They met with New York State Grange Legislative Director Roger Halbert. He also had three or four politicians to answer questions and give their opinions on what’s going on in Albany. David gave a very good report.

Beacon Power And NYSERDA Sign $2 Million Contract

Beacon Power Corporation (Nasdaq: BCON) announced that it has signed a $2 million contract with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA).
NYSERDA will provide partial funding for critical grid infrastructure elements at Beacon’s 20 MW frequency regulation plant in Stephentown including interconnection components to allow the plant to interface with the New York power grid. NYSERDA will also fund certain other project aspects, including a visitor information center to be built at the Stephentown site.

American Legion Flag Day Ceremony
The American Legion Post #40 in Hoosick Falls will hold a Flag Day Ceremony at the Post at 150 Main St. in Hoosick Falls. It will be at 6 pm on June 14. Please join us as we celebrate the adoption of our flag. There will be music and speakers as well as refreshments following the ceremony. Everyone is welcome.
Grafton Historical Society Annual Picnic
The June 16 meeting of the Grafton Historical Society will be held at the Grafton Town Green for its annual picnic. In case of rain, it will be held at the Grafton United Methodist Church. Community Awareness Forum On Suicide Prevention
Suicide is a serious public health problem that every community needs to be aware of in order to prevent. On June 7 from 6 to 8 pm there will be a suicide awareness forum at Hoosick Falls Community Youth Center on Church Street in Hoosick Falls. Topics will include how to talk to kids about suicide, peer intervention, bullying and survivor support within the community. Interested parents, teens, school staff and community members should attend.
Petersburgh Library’s Annual Fund Raiser
Everyone is invited to support the Petersburgh Public Library’s annual fund raiser on Saturday, June 5. We are looking for donations of baked goods and plants. Items donated should be brought to the Library between 2 and 5 pm on Friday, June 4, or between 8 and 9 am on Saturday, June 5.
