Woods Walk At Dyken Pond

The Rensselaer Plateau Alliance is hosting a Woods Walk Series this spring to increase understanding of woodlot management and enjoyment of forests. The first in the series will be held at the Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center on Saturday, April 24. Registration, coffee and conversation begins at 8:30 am, followed by a brief introduction to the Rensselaer Plateau Alliance. Workshops will run from 9:30 am until 12:30 pm. Trail Clean Up Volunteers Needed

The Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center is looking for volunteers to work on trail clean-up on Saturday, April 24, from 1:30 to 4 pm. Trails need to be cleared from winter debris and blow-downs. Volunteers will work on teams and can volunteer for the whole afternoon or just an hour or two. Refreshments will be provided. Full Moon Hike At Dyken Pond

Take a twilight full moon walk and experience the sounds sensation of early spring at the Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center on Wednesday evening, April 28, from 7 to 9 pm. During twilight we will walk to Dustin Swamp to listen for spring peepers (frogs) and barred owls. As dark descends, we’ll watch the full moon rise over the lake. This program is free and is an easy paced hike of about 1½ miles. Experienced guides will show you how to hike without a flashlight, using night vision to guide your way. Friday, March 11, 1853: Geo P. bought a second handed cook stove of Sylvenas Carpenter and paid seven dollars with the cooking utensils, it was a stove that the widow Landers had used up to her death, and Geo P. paid J.M. Glass one dollar for a copper tea kettle and he bought crockery and other things of him that was the widow Lucy Pierce’s, the whole amount was five dollars and 50 cents, and Geo P. paid Wm B. Maxon three dollars and 31 cts for articles to keep house.

Body Not Yet Found Of Woman Presumed Drowned

The Hoosick Falls Police Department, area firefighters and State and County rescue personnel were all part of a search operation on the Hoosic River Easter Sunday and Monday. According to Police Chief Robert Ashe, a call came in about 12:15 am that a woman might have fallen in the river near the River St. bridge. Witnesses told police they had seen a woman walking in and out of the road and they had spoken to her. They said she appeared “highly intoxicated.” The woman told them she was going into the woods by the river. They lost sight of her and a short time later they heard a splash. Berlin ZBA To Decide On Cherry Plain Cell Tower

On April 15 the Berlin Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) will decide whether Mariner Tower can construct a cellular tower on Doug and Melinda Goodermote’s property in Cherry Plain. The construction site is located on the west side of Rt. 22, and, as is evident from February’s public hearing, a considerable number of local residents support the tower. It will reach approximately 150 feet high and be fenced off from the community. Those who favor the tower claim it will be an asset to the area.
