Petersburgh Planning Board Chairman David Miller appeared at the Petersburgh Town Board meeting Monday night to say that two Planning Board matters “are probably going to end up in court.” He identified these two matters as “Star Ridge Way” and “O’Donovan’s Shaving Mill,” and he said both are likely to come to a head at next Monday’s Planning Board Meeting. The Planning Board will meet January 25 at 7:30 at Petersburgh Town Hall.

Berlin Highway Workers Unionize

Berlin Highway Department workers will be represented by the United Public Service Employees Union in future negotiations with the Town. A vote was cast by the Town Board at the regular Town Board meeting on Thursday night, January 14, recognizing the UPSEU as the representative of Berlin employees. The vote was 4-0 in favor of recognizing the union with Town Supervisor Robert Jaeger abstaining from the vote and recusing himself from the discussion because he is already a member of a union, CSEA, as an employee of the Berlin School District.

Bowl For Hoosick Kids Raises Over $9,000
The Sixth Annual Bowl for Hoosick Kids raised over $9,000 for the Hoosick Area Youth Center & Community Coalition (HAYC3) on Saturday, January 16. Thanks to the generosity of primary sponsors, Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics and WCW, Inc., and the event host, Barbecue Recreation, the event was a tremendous success, according to organizers.

The Stephentown Town Board convened its first regular meeting on Monday, January 18, under the leadership of Larry Eckhardt, newly elected Town Supervisor. Following the Pledge of Allegiance, Eckhardt asked for a moment of silence in memory of Martin Luther King, Jr. and in respect for the many victims of the ongoing tragedy unfolding in Haiti.

Berlin School District Ripe With Fun Learning Opportunities

There was little talk of multimillion dollar renovation projects, but the Berlin Board meeting still had plenty of pizzazz. The faculty is currently involved in a number of fun and intellectually stimulating projects and activities. Area residents should be happy to hear about the many learning opportunities open to Berlin’s students. Moreover, math scores appear to be rising, and the District hopes these improvements continue. But at Tuesday’s School Board meeting several community members voiced their concern with the District’s policies and financial plans.
