Stephentown Veterans Dedicate New Monument

At a ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park on Saturday, November 8, the Veterans of Stephentown dedicated a new monument honoring “Those who served from the Stephentown Area in the American Revolution and Civil War.” This handsome monument honors all the Revolutionary and Civil war veterans but will not be inscribed with their names because at the time Stephentown covered a much larger geographical area, much of which is now in other towns. Veterans Café

Joe Caverly, Rolland Hewitt both of Petersburgh and Alvie Vincent of Berlin were the first customers of the Veterans Hall Cafe in Petersburgh. Rolland, whose name is in the Honor Roll of Veterans for Petersburgh, was eligible for free coffee. Caverly, who didn’t drink coffee when he went into the service in WW II, thought that 10 cents a cup would cover him. Alvie, who is not a veteran, paid the full price of $1. All the men made generous donations for their homemade cinnamon rolls. [Read more…] about Veterans Café

HFCS Elementary School Honors Veterans

Third grade teacher Terri Burdick is a member of the Elks. The Elks Club, she told a packed auditorium Monday morning, is dedicated to helping Veterans. For many years, in that capacity, Mrs. Burdick has spearheaded a program that recognizes them on the eve of Veterans Day. The entire elementary school gets involved in this outstanding program. Students and teachers dress in red, white and blue, and there’s plenty of singing. Hearing an auditorium of elementary kids belting out “Proud to be an American” will warm any heart. Rensselaer County Veterans Breakfast

The Brunswick Elks hosted the Annual Rennselaer County Veterans breakfast on Sunday, November 9.  More than 700 meals were served to area Veterans and their families, with a special awards ceremony following the breakfast.  Twenty-five area Veterans were awarded various service medals by Congressman Mike McNulty and County Executive Kathy Jimino. Students Of The Month At Grafton Elementary

Grafton Elementary School is emphasizing the following character traits throughout the year: responsibility, respect, self-control, compassion, tolerance, trustworthiness, perseverance, cooperation, citizenship and appreciation.
