Dunn Memorial Bridge Presentation At The Poestenkill Historical Society

The Poestenkill Historical Society will meet on Tuesday, November 27, at 7 pm in the Poestenkill Town Hall (Rte. 351). This November’s program will feature Mark Bodner as guest speaker. Bodner has done much historical research on the Dunn Memorial Bridge, officially known as the Private Parker F. Dunn Memorial Bridge.

Stephentown Community Tree Lighting

Just in time for the holiday season, the Grafton Community Library will raffle a super Holiday Gift Card basket to benefit the Library. The winning ticket will be drawn on Wednesday, December 12, at the Library. Tickets cost one dollar each or six tickets for five dollars.

On Sunday, December 3, from 7 to 11 am, the Berlin Fire Department will be holding its fresh, hot off the griddle, monthly breakfast.  For your eating pleasure we include all-you-can-eat pancakes, French toast and biscuits for our homemade sausage gravy, sausage and bacon, toast, home fries and eggs (scrambled, sunny side, over easy or over hard).  Beverage choices include coffee, tea, (both decaf available), hot chocolate, milk and orange juice.

Texas Hold’em In Stephentown

The Veterans of Stephentown will hold a Texas Hold’em Tournament on Saturday, December 1, in the Stephentown Fire Hall, located at 35 Grange Hall Road in Stephentown. The doors will open at 5 pm and close at 6 pm. Play begins at 6:15 sharp.
A free buffet will be served at the first break.

Dottie Cross, Organist and Choir Director of the Christ United Methodist Church in Johnsonville and the West Hoosick Baptist Church combined those choirs with guest singers from ten additional churches to present an outstanding musical program with almost 50 voices on Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon, November 17 and 18. On Saturday the Welcome Blend was a part of the program, and on Sunday Harmony of Faith performed.

Yule Log Tradition At The Dyken Pond Center

Celebrate the outdoors this season by enjoying the annual Yule Log Event at the Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center on Sunday, December 9. Beginning at 1 pm the story of the Yule Log will be shared, followed by a search for the hidden Yule Log. Guests can then enjoy this informal day at the outdoor campfire or make holiday crafts for the season. There will also be a children’s scavenger hunt as well. People of all ages are encouraged to come out, and don’t forget to bring your sleds! Hot chocolate and light snacks will be provided; feel free to bring your own snacks to share.

Friday, March 18, 1825: I set bar posts and mended stone wall and chopped wood in the woods. Tonight said post rider stays with us. He fetched me a book. The title is, “The Spiritual Mustard Pot.” The author is Mr. Amos Morey, a neighbor of mine. I paid one dollar for said book, and I have sold it in eight shares, or eight of us pays twelve and a half cents each.
March 2 l, Monday: This morning at one o’clock Wm awakened me and I took the single wagon and fetched some of the neighboring women to his house while he went after Doctor Graves, and bcforc daylight he had a daughter born.
