A WW II Soldier Writes To His Mother
The Friends of the Brunswick Community Library welcome James Breig, author of Searching for Sgt. Bailey, at 6 pm on Friday, October 26, at the Library on Rte. 2 in Brunswick. Breig, a retired journalist, chanced upon a collection of letters from a WW II soldier writing to his mother. Intrigued, he sought to find out more about the writer. The result of his research is this 300 page biography, a salute to the common soldier of World War II. Admission is free and refreshments will be served.
Johnsonville Rescue Squad Breakfast
The Johnsonville Rescue Squad located at 4 River Road is holding its monthly breakfast on Sunday, November 4, from 7:30 to 11:30 am. The cost for adults is $6, children $3. Stephentown Texas Hold’em
The Volunteer Fire Department will hold a Texas Hold’em Tournament on Saturday, October 22, in the Stephentown Fire Hall, located at 35 Grange Hall Road in Stephentown. The doors will open at 5:30 pm and close at 6 pm. Play begins at 6:15 sharp.
A free buffet will be served at the first break, and refreshments will be available.
No advance registration is required, and a donation of $35 per player will be accepted. Players can make an additional $10 donation at the door for 1,000 extra chips. This tournament will pay one place for every ten players with a minimum of four places and a maximum of 9 places.

Holiday Dried Flower Designs To Benefit Scholarship Fund

Members of the Cambridge Area Branch of the Woman’s National Farm and Garden Association held a floral design workshop on Thursday, October 11. Several members gathered at the Wood Park meeting room to create designs using dried plant material. These arrangements, created for the fall and winter holiday season, will be sold at a Silent Auction at the Cambridge Branch of the Glens Falls National Bank. The proceeds will benefit the Branch’s Scholarship Fund.
