The Life Of George Holcomb – Settling Father’s Estate
by Alex Brooks
In the last episode, Holcomb had a dispute with one of his brothers over settlement of his father’s will, and Brother Beriah went home “much dissatisfied.” After settling the legalities of his settlement with the first three siblings, he goes to cousin Samul Holcomb, and has difficulty there as well.
Sunday, April 8, 1824: This morning Squire John Babcock was going past our house and I called to him to stop and take some refreshment, and I let him read the deed that brother Beriah gave to Brother Wm and myself yesterday, and said Babcock told me that it was perfectly correct.

Hoosick Town Board Action – Town Pool Cost Is An Issue
by Bea Peterson
The Town of Hoosick Board meeting was held on Tuesday, October 9, instead of Monday in deference to the Columbus Day holiday.
Mid-meeting Councilman Bruce Patire asked residents for their patience and understanding as the Board deals with the upcoming budget. “Businesses are asked for more from less people,” he said. “It is difficult for us. There are only so many things we can do in the next year or two.” He said they want to hold taxes down, but there are decisions to be made to save the Town Pool and to fix roads. “We’re looking at a health insurance increase of ten percent, minimum,” he said. “We have to make hard decisions.”

New Lebanon Ethics Board Will Stay Put
by Thaddeus Flint

“The matter is effectively dead,” said Town Clerk Colleen Teal. Although it could be brought back at a later time, she noted. With such a close vote – a tie in fact – it would be only a small surprise should the item re-appear on some future agenda. [Read more…] about New Lebanon Ethics Board Will Stay Put
