The main event at Tuesday’s New Lebanon Town Board meeting was the semi-quarterly Lebanon Valley Speedway campground showdown. Every few months the Town pits itself against Speedway owner Howard Commander in a seemingly endless struggle to have him fulfill some requirements for a campground permit for a campground that opens each race season anyway, permit or no permit.

Hearing Scheduled On The Dissolution Of The Village Of Hoosick Falls

At the Village Board Meeting on Tuesday, September 11, Mayor Matt Monahan announced that the final study on the dissolution of the Village and alternatives to dissolution is almost done. The research is completed. The Mayor said the Committee will meet again next week. Two public hearings will be held. The first will be on Wednesday, October 10, at 6 pm. The Rensselaer County Legislature – Never Forget

The family of Raymond E. Calhoun of Hoosick, who died on July 9, 2012, entered the well of the Rensselaer County Legislature on Tuesday, September 11, to be presented with a copy of the resolution passed last month that honored their patriarch. The presentation was made to the Calhoun family by District 5 Legislators Stan Brownell and Lester Goodermote, who represent the towns of Stephentown, Berlin, Petersburgh, Grafton, Hoosick and the Village of Hoosick Falls. It was clear from their comments that there is even more to the Ray Calhoun story than what was included in August’s resolution.

At 2:15 Saturday morning, September 8, a vehicle struck this building on Elm Street causing considerable damage. The driver left the scene. Hoosick Town Board Action – Bank Robbing The Town?

A Town safety deposit box came to light last year when the Town received a bill from Key Bank for $2,379. It appears the box was established when Sean Casey was Town Supervisor. No one has any idea what is in the box, and there is no record of any bills being sent to the Town before 2011. No one knows where the key to the mysterious box is. It takes at least two people to be present to open it, and none of those who rented the box are on the Board any longer. The Board members were not inclined to pay the fee. Village of Hoosick Falls Board Meeting – Remembering 9/11

The Village of Hoosick Falls opened its regular monthly meeting at 6 pm Tuesday, September 11, with the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence to remember 9/11.
This was followed by Mayor Matt Monahan noting that Village Trustee John (Ersel) Hickey will be out for the next couple of months for cancer surgery. “Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family,” said the Mayor.

Sunshine And Rain Tournament

The annual Karen McGovern Volleyball Tournament was held on Saturday, September 8. In the morning the weather was absolutely gorgeous. It rained in the afternoon. It didn’t stop the volleyball enthusiasts. There appeared to be a sort of “Karen was tough feeling, so why should a little rain stop us.” And the sun came out again soon enough to dry everyone off.

Flu Shot Clinic In Stephentown
There will be a flu shot clinic sponsored by Stephentown Seniors Club on September 20 from 11 am until 12.30 pm at the Firemen’s Hall on Grange Hall Road. The clinic is open to the public.
