Thursday, March 12, 1824: This morning the old widow Buten was found dead in her bed. Today I tended to Father. He is thought dangerous.
Friday: Today the funeral of the widow Buten was attended at the Presbyterian meeting house by Priest Hunter. I could not attend for taking care of Father. Tonight Father was in great distress part of the night. Deacon Pierce prayed with us tonight.

Hit And Run Accident In Hoosick

The New York State Police in Brunswick, are investigating a hit and run accident that occurred on State Route 22 near the former Baker’s Nursery in  Hoosick early Monday morning, September 3. The Hoosick Rescue Squad, Hoosick Falls Fire Department, Hoosick Falls Police Department and the State Police responded to the scene.

Stephentown Man Charged In Christopher Baker Fatality

Brendan Hoffman, a 19 year old Stephentown resident, has been charged with aggravated vehicular homicide in relation to the June 28 accident on Cranston Hill Road in Stephentown that killed his friend, Christopher Baker. According to Rensselaer County District Attorney Richard McNally, the charge is a Class B felony from which a conviction could result in up to 25 years imprisonment. Elements of the charge include driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and causing the death of another person.

Sawyer Claims $1M In Damages Against Grafton

Former Grafton Town Supervisor and Bookkeeper Tyler Sawyer has filed a “Notice of Claim” against the Town of Grafton claiming damages to his personal and professional reputation from statements made about him by “agents, servants, and/or employees of the Town.”

North Hoosick Stewart’s Has $3M NY Lottery Winner

According to the Lottery News, “The New York Lottery Tuesday introduced James Jess of North Bennington, VT, as the newest top prize winner on the popular $3,000,000 Bonanza  scratch-off game. The 62 year old said there’s a reason he crosses the border to purchase lottery tickets in New York. ‘The games are just better in New York,’ Jess said.

Wysocki Farm To Use Solar Power

Travel along Route 22 in Hoosick and you can’t miss them. They are huge. There are two rows of panels facing “Solar South” that will soon be generating electricity for the Wysocki farm and home across the road. A Great Time At The Rensselaer County Schaghticoke Fair

The Rensselaer County Schaghticoke Fair has been in operation for 193 years. It is the third oldest Fair in New York State. Weather conditions were great for the entire week of the Schaghticoke Fair. On Thursday, August 30, the weather was absolutely perfect – sunny, cool and breezy. There was plenty of stuff for the whole family to see and do all day and all evening. Area farms and businesses were well represented. Friends and folks from nearby towns won blue ribbons with their vegetables and fruits. Stephentown Contributes To The County Veterans Hall Exhibition At The Fair

The former Freihofer’s Building at the Schaghticoke Fairgrounds is now the Veterans Hall. During the Rensselaer County Fair which extended over Labor Day weekend it became one of the more popular sites to visit. “The turnout and the response from veterans and those who know or love them was overwhelming,” said Jody Luskin, one of those who led a small group of dedicated volunteers in refurbishing the hall and putting together the exhibits. “It’s been a huge, huge response,” she said, with a constant stream of people browsing through the exhibits.

Hoosick Falls Country Club Is Expanding Services

The Hoosick Falls Country Club is offering the community more than a golf course this year. Besides the bar, it now has a full service restaurant. After its membership meeting on September 14, the Club may be working to winterize the facility so it is open all year.

Panthers Roar Out Of The Gate
