Changes In The Hudson River
The Rensselaer Land Trust invites the public to attend a free presentation entitled, “Changes in the Hudson River over the Last 150 Years,” delivered by Dan Miller, Habitat Restoration Coordinator with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation Hudson River Estuary Program, to be held at 7 pm on Thursday, March 29, at the East Greenbush Library. Miller will speak about his work identifying opportunities to restore important habitats in the Hudson River Estuary.

Forestry Workshop In New Lebanon
“The Future of Your Woods and Wildlife” will be held on Saturday, March 24. The day long workshop will help landowners get the most out of their woodland and address some of the issues facing woodland owners today. Topics will include forest ecology and management, effects of deer and resources to help landowners. There will also be information addressing the local ecology, which will be of particular interest to Taconic Mountain landowners where the workshop will be held.

The Life Of George Holcomb – A Death in the Family

In the last episode, Holcomb’s first-born son, less than a year old, had taken ill. The last entry was in mid-July of 1820. There is then a period of two months in which Holcomb does not say anything about his baby being ill. He talks about buying cap-ribbon and shoelaces for the boy. Whether the illness went away or just subsided a bit is impossible to tell, but Holcomb is not writing about any illness in his baby. In early September he even takes the baby on a trip up to Fort Edward to visit relatives.

Hoosick Board Makes Decision On Armory In Dramatic Meeting

The Town of Hoosick regular Board meeting on Monday, March 11, reeked of drama. More than 80 people attended the session. The crowd was there because they were certain some sort of decision regarding the Armory would be made. They were right. The meeting began with the usual bits and pieces. The large crowd was quiet and orderly.

New Lebanon Town Board Action – Assessor Resigns

As spring comes to New Lebanon so, too, comes change. And while everyone is probably looking forward to spring, not everyone is as welcoming of change.
One of the more unwelcome changes discussed at Tuesday’s Town Board meeting was the surprise departure of the Town’s Assessor, Craig Surprise. After 21 years at that position, Surprise’s final day with the Town will be Thursday.

Grafton Town Board Action – Disputes Arise

The Grafton Town Board meeting was barely underway when the first dispute began among Town officials.
Town Councilperson Barbara Messenger said she thought Resolution 25 from the organizational meeting, giving the Town Bookkeeper Victoria Nellis emergency authority to sign checks, should be amended because it does not follow the most prudent financial procedures.
