Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department Texas Hold’em

The Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department  will hold a Texas Hold’em Tournament on Saturday, February 25, in the Stephentown Fire Hall, located at 35 Grange Hall Road in Stephentown. The doors will open at 5 pm and close at 6 pm. Play begins at 6:15 sharp.
A free buffet will be served at the first break, and refreshments will be available.
No advance registration is required, and a donation of $35 per player will be accepted. Players can make an additional $10 donation at the door for 1,000 extra chips. This tournament will pay one place for every ten players with a minimum of four places.

GLSP Winter Recess Programs: Animal Tracks & Bird Count

Grafton Lakes State Park is hosting a Winter Recess Program, Animal Tracks and Traces, on Saturday, February 18, at 1 pm. This program will include an introduction to reading the stories left in the snow by fox, deer, rabbits and other forest dwellers along with a short hike. Come dressed for the weather and learn how to track and trace animals found at the Park.

Winterlude Event At Cherry Plain State Park

On Saturday, February 25, the Friends of Cherry Plain State Park (FCP) are hosting an outdoor day of winter activities.  The event will be based at the Cherry Plain State Park entrance on Miller Road in Berlin from  9:30 am to 2 pm.
Depending on weather and interest, FCP will host snowshoe hikes, cross-country ski treks, ice skating on the pond or simply a good long walk. An animal tracking and nature observation event will be featured. If snow conditions permit, a free snowshoe demo is available for both adults and children on a first-come, first-served basis. Free Bird Nesting Boxes

The Rensselaer Plateau Alliance has bluebird and wood duck nesting boxes available to the public for free. In 2011, the RPA collaborated with Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center and the Averill Park School District to build the boxes. Fourth grade students from Miller Hill Elementary School and Robert C. Parker school worked with older students to build the boxes as part of a service learning project. Patricia Jean McGarvin

Hoosick Falls – Patricia Jean (Springer) McGarvin, 68, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 12, 2012, at her residence surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Robert McGarvin II, who died on December 30, 2009.
Patricia was born on January 21, 1944, in Hoosick Falls, NY. She was the oldest daughter of Hazel (Surdam) Springer of  Eagle Bridge, NY, and the late Roland Springer. Pat is pre-deceased by her son, Robert J. McGarvin III (1996), her grandson, Joshua P. O’Brien (2011), and her sister, Lucy S. Mosley (2008).

Hancock – Edith M. Kickery Wilcox, 86, of Main Street, Hancock, MA, died on Monday, February 13, 2012, at the Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, MA.
Born in Pittsfield on April 30, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Clifford and Lillian Kelly Kickery. She was the wife of the late George E. Wilcox, Sr., who died on February 24, 1995. They were married in Stephentown, NY, on June 17, 1940.

Missing Petersburgh Woman Found After A Major Search

New York State Police were coordinating a major search for a missing woman from Petersburgh on Tuesday and Wednesday. Jessica Clyde, 28 years old, left her home in Petersburgh early Monday morning and no one knew where she went or if she was OK.
