A U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Delaware on Tuesday approved the sale of the Beacon Power Corporation’s assets to Rockland Capital, a leading private equity firm.
Rockland, which focuses on energy related investments, was the successful bidder among several energy and technology firms in an auction of the 20 megawatt Stephentown frequency regulation plant that was completed just last June.
Sale of the plant was required under terms of the bankruptcy, but Rockland will acquire not only the plant but substantially all the assets of Beacon Power, including its intellectual property. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) must approve the sale of the Stephentown assets, but that is not expected to be an issue.

Grafton Ponders The Future Of The Grafton Elementary School Building

The Grafton Fire District held a public meeting Monday, February 6, to further discuss possible ideas on acquiring the empty Grafton Elementary School from the Berlin School District.
At the January 18 Berlin School Board meeting, Grafton Fire Commissioner Bill Keenan appeared before the School Board to voice that organization’s possible interest in the property and to invite Board members to the meeting held on February 6. No School Board members attended, and nobody seemed to notice their absence.

Large Turnout For Hoosick Town Hall Bidders Conference

More than 40 people representing at least 20 firms attended the Bidders Conference at the Armory in Hoosick Falls early Tuesday evening. Members of the Hoosick Town Board toured the building with small groups that then convened in the meeting room. Many people took photos throughout the Armory.

According to DEC’s illustrated “SEQR Cookbook,” it takes a dozen eggs – well make that a dozen SEQR Steps – to complete a “SEQR Soup.” The Stephentown Zoning Board cooks are only up to step six now with Howard Commander’s application for a zoning variance for his proposed Motocross project.

Panther Wrestlers Win Class C Section II Championship

The Hoosick Falls wrestling team went 4-0 in the finals of the Class C Tournament on Saturday to clinch its first sectional title in over a decade. The Panthers scored 197.5 points to beat second place Galway (174 points) and third place Corinth (169 points).

Nate Moseley Earns Eagle Scout Award

On Sunday, February 5, Tech Valley High School senior Nathaniel H. Moseley received the Eagle Scout Award in a ceremony at the Immaculate Conception Church Hall, attended by family and friends.
Nate has been a Boy Scout for ten years and is a member of Troop 63. He is also a member of the Boy Scout Order of the Arrow.
To achieve the rank of Eagle Scout a boy must be active in his troop and hold the rank of Life Scout. He must demonstrate that he lives by the principles of the Scout Oath and Law in his daily life. He must also earn 21 merit badges. Nate has earned 38 badges.

TRACs Coalition Members from Stephentown headed to Washington, D.C. this week to join nearly 3,000 substance abuse prevention and treatment specialists and advocates from throughout the country for Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America’s (CADCA) 22nd Annual National Leadership Forum. CADCA’s National Leadership Forum is the nation’s largest training for substance abuse prevention and treatment professionals and researchers.

Letter To The Editor – The Tradition Is Strong
To the Editor:
This is written in hopes of acclaiming the accomplishments of the wrestlers of Hoosick Falls. It has been many years since the Panthers have claimed the League and Class Sectional crowns. As one of many who had grown up watching and eventually participating in the strong tradition of one of the toughest, most unforgiving and relentless of sports, I feel a great measure of pride and nostalgia, as do all the alumni of HFCS wrestling as we enjoy the fruits of the labor of the young men who continue to compete on the mats this year.
