GLSP 27th Annual Winter Festival

Grafton Lakes State Park and the Friends of Grafton Lakes State Park will host the 27th Annual Winter Festival and Ice Fishing Contest on Saturday, January 21. The Winter Fest will feature winter exhibits, vendors, family friendly and recreational activities. The Winter Fest is free of charge and main events run from 10 am to 4 pm.

Stephentown – Francis A. Martini, 76, of Wilderness Way, Stephentown, NY, died on Monday, January 2, 2012, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, NY. Born in Pittsfield, MA, on September 10, 1935, he was the son of the late Anthony and Rose Stracuzzi Martini. A 1953 graduate of Pittsfield High School where he excelled in football and baseball, Fran had been a resident of Stephentown for the past twenty years after living in New Lebanon for eleven years.

Margaret Grace Rimkunas

Hoosick – Margaret Grace Rimkunas  passed away peacefully on December 25, 2011, following a brief illness.
Born inMechanicville, NY, on September 7, 1922, Margaret was the daughter of the late Jack and Margaret (O’Brien) Eberle. She was a graduate of St. Mary’s Academy in Hoosick Falls, NY. On April 21, 1946, she married Stanley J. Rimkunas. For the next forty years they owned and operated the family dairy farm in East Hoosick, NY. She was devoted to being a talented homemaker, a loving wife, daughter and sister, a beloved friend and a truly outstanding mother and grandmother.

On Sunday September 4, 17 year old Nathan Therien was driving through Petersburgh when he suddenly and very unexpectedly went into cardiac arrest. This was on Route 22 near the intersection with Prosser Hollow Road. Nathan’s 20 year old sister, Paige, was in the passenger seat and managed to bring the car to a stop by the side of the road. Their parents were in another car ahead of them, and when they realized their children’s car was not behind them they returned to where Nathan and Paige’s car had stopped. The Save The Armory Committee Makes Plans

The Save the Armory Committee, which was approved at the last Hoosick Town Board meeting, met Monday, December 19, at 6 pm in the Village Hall. Eleven people attended the meeting and quickly volunteered to take on a variety of assignments.
Chairman Shelly Stiles opened the meeting with two basic ground rules: one – no looking back to complain about what might have been, instead look forward, and two – there is no such thing as a bad idea. The Committee agreed. They also agreed to meet frequently as there is not a lot of time to accomplish the goal of keeping the Armory as the Town Hall.
