Grafton Town Board Action – Open Governance For The Grafton Ambulance

After complaints at last month’s Grafton Town Board meeting that interested citizens have been excluded from meetings of the Grafton Ambulance Squad, Town Supervisor Tyler Sawyer sought an opinion from the New York State Committee on Open Government about whether those meetings, by law, are required to be open to the public.

Village of Hoosick Falls Board Meeting – Antlers For All

The Hoosick Falls Village Board meeting on Tuesday evening, December 13, began on a light note. Sam Wickenden, Karli Granger and Aleah Stowell, in elves hats, addressed the Board. Aleah told them they were from HAYC3’s  Youth Impact Jr. program. It’s a leadership program for kids who like to help the community. Sam told the Board that the program helped the community by putting a bird feeder in the front of the Wood Park Senior building and they had a Welcome Desk for the Village cleanup day. New Lebanon Town Board Action – December 2011

The New Lebanon Central School District’s Superintendent, Karen McGraw, was the featured guest at Monday’s New Lebanon Town Board meeting, and she delivered upbeat news on the District’s finances as she worked to bridge what she saw as a “perceived disconnect between the Town Board and the School Board.”

Rensselaer County Legislature – Hoosick Area Athletes Recognized

The first four resolutions passed at the Rensselaer County Legislature’s regular meeting on Tuesday, December 13, recognized the achievements of student-athletes from Hoosick Falls. Two teams were honored, the Hoosick Falls Central School Girls Soccer team and the HFCS Football team, and two individuals were honored.
The first resolution of the night told the story of Sierra Bailey, a senior cheerleader at HFCS. According to the resolution, Sierra has been cheerleading since the age of five. At seventeen she tried out for a spot on the Varsity Cheer Squad over the summer at a cheerleading camp and at the age of seventeen her dream came true. Although she tried out with no expectations of making the team, when the results came back she was one of five hundred accepted to take part in the synchronized cheerleading squad during the 85th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday, November 24, 2011.

Names To Be Added To The Hoosick Area Veterans Wall

The Veterans Wall with bronze plaques was dedicated in Wood Park in Hoosick Falls on November 11, 2011. For many individuals and families it was a very special moment. Make An Investment In Hoosick’s Youth

HAYC3 (Hoosick Area Youth Center & Community Coalition) is seeking support from the community to continue its programming for youth and families.  Although HAYC3 received a federal grant this year, the funds are restricted and cannot be used for recreation programs, after school activities or basic facility needs such as heat, electricity and maintenance.  Community investment is needed to keep the center operating at its current capacity.

Fourth Quarter Surge Leads Witches Over Panthers

On December 1, 1961, the Hoosick Falls Central School opened their brand new gym with a Washington County League boys basketball game against Stillwater. Spectators entering Tuesday night’s game at the school received a photocopy of the article discussing the new gym’s opening that was published in the Hoosick Falls Standard Press on Thursday, November 30, 1961. Look for more 50th Anniversary Season highlights at games as the season continues.

Panthers Football All-Stars: Williams Named Player Of The Year

The Section II Class C Football All-Stars were announced recently.  Hoosick Falls was well represented on the list. Tanner Williams was named the Class C Player of the Year. Joining Williams on the First Team Offense included Brad Burns, Randy Tutunjian, Jeremy Barss and David Couch. First Team Defense included Josh Mulready, David Couch and Lance Rice-Wilder.  Billy Pine was named to the Second Team Offense. Second Team Defense included Aaron Perkins, James Willette and Isaiah Meyer.

Panther Bowlers Win Another

The Hoosick Falls bowling team won another away match, this time at Granville, by the score of 4-0.  Hoosick Falls had a match total pin count of 3,559 to Granville’s total pin count of 3,056.  Hoosick Falls now has a record of 15-1, and Granville is 11-5.
