Battle Of Bennington Commemoration

The Battle of Bennington, fought on August 16, 1777, will be commemorated at the New York State Bennington Battlefield Historic Site on Friday, August 16, starting at 7 pm. The ceremony will be conducted by members of Chapters of the Empire State Society Sons of the American Revolution, The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and other local historical groups in cooperation with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.  [Read more…] about Battle Of Bennington Commemoration

J. Arba Brenenstuhl

Hoosick Falls – J. Arba Brenenstuhl, 94, a lifelong resident of Hoosick Falls, NY, died Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at the Center for Health and Rehabilitation at Hoosick Falls following a short illness. Born February 21, 1919, he was the son of the late Arba J. and Mabel (Kautz) Brenenstuhl.
Mr. Brenenstuhl graduated from Walter A. Wood High School in Hoosick Falls and worked for several years as a stone mason and carpenter’s assistant for Ira Stevens before enlisting in the United States Army in 1944. Upon entering the service he was sent to Syracuse University for six months and later air training school at the U.S. Army Airbase in Midland, TX. Mr. Brenenstuhl was ordered to England where he served as a bombardier with the 388th Air Group over Europe during World War II. After serving with distinction, earning the rank of First Lieutenant and receiving three Bronze Stars, he was honorably discharged from active duty in October 1945. He remained a member of the Army Reserve until retiring with the rank of Major in 1984.
For many years following his service he was a self-employed carpenter in the Hoosick Falls area and spent some time working as a logger drawing pulpwood to area mills. He retired in 1984.
In his quiet time Mr. Brenenstuhl was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the West Hoosick Baptist Church, the American Legion Post #40 and the Masonic Lodge #400, both in Hoosick Falls, and the Hoosick Grange Lodge #1127.
Mr. Brenenstuhl’s survivors include his nephew, Roger and wife Diana Corbett of Hoosick Falls, a sister-in-law, Shirley Brenenstuhl of Hoosick, NY, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Brenenstuhl is pre-deceased by a brother, Willis Brenenstuhl, and three sisters, Barbara Corbett, Beulah McFadden and Elva Fisk.
At Mr. Brenenstuhl’s request a graveside service with military honors will be held on Saturday, August 17, at 10:30 am at the Warren Cemetery in Boyntonville, NY. There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to either the Masonic Lodge or the Hoosick Grange.
Funeral service details are under the direction of the Howard B. Tate & Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 New York Route 7, Raymertown, NY.

Scuffle At Stewart’s In Berlin

A Berlin man was arrested for an incident that occurred outside the Berlin Stewart’s Shop earlier this month. According to State Police spokesman Mark Cepiel, Timothy Button was arrested on July 12 and charged with Assault 3d degree and Disorderly Conduct.  He was processed at the State Police station in Sand Lake and required to appear in Berlin Town Court the following week. Assault 3d, a misdemeanor, carries a possible penalty of 1-3 years in jail and/or up to a $1,000 fine. Disorderly Conduct, a violation, can get one to 15 days in jail and/or a $250 fine.
