Grafton Town Board Action – Weird Confrontations And A Sander Accident

At the Grafton Town Board meeting on Monday, after the Board’s normal correspondence had been read, Board Member Barbara Messenger said she wanted to read a letter she received in her Town Board box. It said, “If I have annoyed you last year, suck it up buttercup, because it ain’t gonna be any different this year.” The letter was unsigned.
At public comment time, David Buckley rose to speak, as he usually does, but this time before he could get out two words, Pete Gundrum stood up and interrupted him, saying that Buckley does not live in Grafton and he should quit bothering everybody at Town meetings. He concluded with an insulting comment about Buckley’s family life.

Former WCW Building May Soon Be In County Hands

The former WCW building at 1 Mechanic Street, one of two buildings on adjoining properties owned by JW Realty, may soon and finally belong to Rensselaer County.
The WCW company left the Mechanic Street building in the autumn of 2011 after a long battle over the building’s tax assessment. Because of the tax dispute, the building was to be taken over by the County for non-payment of taxes. Public opinion was that the building would soon be put on the market by the County. Hoosick Town Board Action – So Far No Skating

While many folks have been enjoying the mild weather for most of this winter, others want to ski and skate. One very irate resident left a very unpleasant message on the Town answering machine enraged because there had been no skating so far this year. Except for three very cold days, making ice at the Town rink has not been possible, said Highway Superintendent Louis Schmigel. It seemed rather pointless to go through the lengthy process of producing ice when the few cold days were to be followed by days in the high 40s, he said. Schmigel believes the upcoming stretch of consistently cold days will make skating possible.

BCS Board Hears Budget Woes

The year 2013 has only just begun and already the Berlin Central School District is working on how it will pay for 2014 and beyond. With future State and Federal aid in doubt, and a large increase in Teacher’s retirement benefits expected, the financial future is uncertain. At Tuesday’s School Board meeting, held at the Stephentown Fire Hall, BCS Business Manager William Burke outlined a five year forecast which, with all things remaining as they are now, he described as “dire.”

HFCS Cheerleading Upset

On Tuesday, a concerned parent of a HFCS cheerleader notified the Eastwick Press of an issue between the HFCS school administration and the Cheerleading Coach Katie DiMaggio. The parent, who asked that her name not be used, stated that “Recent action taken by Hoosick Falls Central School District administration members in seeking the resignation of the cheer coach has been called into question by many concerned parents and cheerleaders. Armory Shines As A Result Of Volunteer Days

“It was inspirational,” said HAYC3 volunteers and staff of the Volunteer Days crew that helped at the Armory on Saturday and Sunday, January 12 and 13. “People came with cleaning supplies, brooms, food, cookies,” said Jason Jensen. The volunteers were all ages, from kids to Seniors. “Whole families came,” Jensen added. Between the work crews from the Rensselaer County Jail and the 70 plus weekend volunteers, the building is being transformed.
