Clara Salluzzo

Hoosick Falls – Clara Salluzzo, 94, passed away on Friday, January 11, 2013, at her daughter’s residence in Glenmont, NY. Clara formerly resided on First Street in Hoosick Falls, NY, and was the wife of the late Joseph Salluzzo.
Born on June 13, 1918, in Johnsonville, NY, Clara was the daughter of the late Fred and Eva (Gibbons) Motsiff. She worked at the Specialty Company in Hoosick Falls for many years. In her retirement Clara enjoyed gardening, reading, knitting, sewing and cooking delicious meals for her family at her home. Clara will be remembered most as a devoted mother and grandmother. She dedicated her life to her family and will live on forever in the hearts of all who knew her.

Helen M. Miller

New Lebanon – Helen M. Ham Miller, 92, formerly of West Street, New Lebanon, NY, died on Thursday evening, January 10, 2013, at Fairview Commons in Great Barrington, MA, where she had resided for four years.
Born in Philmont, NY, on January 13, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Arthur D. and Bertha Proper Ham. She was the loving wife of the late George B. Miller, who died on September 11, 2000. They were married in the Mellenville Dutch Reformed Church in Mellenville, NY, on June 25, 1938. She has been a resident of New Lebanon since 1942.

Hoosick Man Shoots Himself

A stretch of Route 22 was closed off for about eight hours on Monday, January 7. According to a New York State Police report, Troopers responded to a domestic dispute call off of Route 22 in the Town of Hoosick in White Creek, to be more precise. The report stated the State Police received assistance from the Village of Hoosick Falls Police Department, the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Department, and New York Environmental Conservation Police.

The Stephentown Fire Department Installation

The Stephentown Fire Department held its Installation Dinner on January 5 at the Fire Hall on Grange Hall Road. Master of Ceremonies Henry Zwack kicked off the event with some opening words and recognition of guests, and Father John Close gave the invocation and blessing before dinner.
Dinner was provided by the Hitchin Post Restaurant, and it was a lavish spread.

Title Town

“Title Town” is the way Legislator Stan Brownell referred to Hoosick Falls during the presentation period of the Rensselaer County Legislature on Tuesday evening, January 8. He was talking about the extraordinary success of the Hoosick Falls Central School’s fall sports teams. The football team won the State Championship, the Girls Soccer Team won the State Championship for the second year in a row and the Boys Soccer team went to the final four, the farthest any Panther Boys Soccer team has ever progressed. Last month the Legislature passed resolutions commending the teams on their achievements. “Hoosick Falls is on the map for sports in New York State,” Brownell said Tuesday.

Village of Hoosick Falls Board Action – Three Month Trial Period For Existing Zoning Laws

In October Hoosick Falls Village Mayor Matt Monahan asked Trustees David Borge and Jeremy Driscoll to review the Village’s zoning laws. At the January 8 regular meeting of the Board Borge reported that the 1992 amended law stated there would be no development in residential zones. Single houses that had been converted into duplexes or apartment houses prior to 1992 were grandfathered. However, since that law was put in place, several properties in the zone have added apartments. New Lebanon Town Board Action – Fuel Bid Confusion

The January New Lebanon Town Board meeting was a quiet one. The most exciting discussion of the night was how to accept a bid for low sulfur heating fuel, low sulfur diesel fuel and kerosene. Resident attendance was low, and those who stayed home missed very little.
First the most important news – there will be a sleigh hill this year. The same lease agreement, signed last year with Councilman K.B. Stephentown ZBA Developing Final EIS For Motocross Park

The Stephentown Zoning Board is in the process of developing a Final Environmental Impact Statement for Howard Commander’s Motocross Park proposed for a site off of Webster Hill Road in the southern edge of the Town. At their meeting on January 3 they listened to a summary of a ten page document from their engineering consultant, Mike Bianchino of CHA (Clough-Harbour Associates) in which he summarized and categorized public comments received on the Draft EIS that the Board accepted in October.
