Sue Lewsey said, “Ever since the Corner Closet on John Street closed years ago, I’ve wanted to see a clothing store in Hoosick Falls.” Well, she’s made it happen. East Poestenkill – Bertram P. Goodermote, 69, of Plank Road, East Poestenkill, NY, died on Thursday, September 6, 2012, at St. Peters Hospital in Albany, NY. Bert was born on the family farm in East Poestenkill and resided there his entire life. Bert was the son of the late Jesse and Esther Milhizer Goodermote and the husband of Elaine Johnson Goodermote.

The Bank Of America In Berlin To Close On December 7

The Bank of America is leaving Berlin. T.J. Crawford, a spokesman for the company, confirmed that the bank will close on December 7. Crawford said the property will be put on the market. Sometimes such properties are bought by other banks, but there is no surety of that. The Bank of America branch in Averill Park was closed last April, but Crawford said there are no plans to close the branch in New Lebanon. The company, he said, is exploring the option of placing a full service ATM facility in Berlin after the bank is closed.

Grafton Town Board Action – Grafton Will Not Acquire Elementary School Property

At its September meeting on Monday, the Grafton Town Board decided not to purchase the former Grafton Elementary School Building. Early in the meeting Supervisor Ray Darling read the letter from the Berlin School board offering the building for a dollar. The offer specified that the building is offered “as is” with no warranties expressed or implied and is for public use only. The offer was good only until September 30.

New Lebanon Town Board Action – Lebanon Valley Speedway Campground At Issue Again

The main event at Tuesday’s New Lebanon Town Board meeting was the semi-quarterly Lebanon Valley Speedway campground showdown. Every few months the Town pits itself against Speedway owner Howard Commander in a seemingly endless struggle to have him fulfill some requirements for a campground permit for a campground that opens each race season anyway, permit or no permit.

Hearing Scheduled On The Dissolution Of The Village Of Hoosick Falls

At the Village Board Meeting on Tuesday, September 11, Mayor Matt Monahan announced that the final study on the dissolution of the Village and alternatives to dissolution is almost done. The research is completed. The Mayor said the Committee will meet again next week. Two public hearings will be held. The first will be on Wednesday, October 10, at 6 pm. The Rensselaer County Legislature – Never Forget

The family of Raymond E. Calhoun of Hoosick, who died on July 9, 2012, entered the well of the Rensselaer County Legislature on Tuesday, September 11, to be presented with a copy of the resolution passed last month that honored their patriarch. The presentation was made to the Calhoun family by District 5 Legislators Stan Brownell and Lester Goodermote, who represent the towns of Stephentown, Berlin, Petersburgh, Grafton, Hoosick and the Village of Hoosick Falls. It was clear from their comments that there is even more to the Ray Calhoun story than what was included in August’s resolution.
