On Saturday, December 1, Norma Brenenstuhl distributed checks to various community organizations on behalf of the Weir Foundation.
According to a write-up from the Louis Miller Museum, Harry Weir was born in Cambridge, NY, in 1886. For most of his life he lived in North Hoosick. Weir started out at Noble and Wood Machine Company as a foundry foreman. He became Secretary of the company in 1918 and later became Treasurer, then President, then General Manager. After his retirement in 1960 he was named Chairman of the Board.

HAYC3 Earns High Marks From SAMHSA

A recent site visit by Public Health Advisor Angela Richardson of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration (SAMHSA) revealed that HAYC3 (Hoosick Armory, Youth Center & Community Coalition) is meeting all the requirements of that organization’s Drug Free Communities grant program and excelling in a number of areas.

HFCS PTA December Family Movie Nights
Hoosick Falls Central School PTA announces its December family night film series co-sponsored with the Hoosick Federal Credit Union. Here is an opportunity for families to enjoy an outing free of charge. The first movie scheduled is “Arthur Christmas” on Friday, December 14, at 6 pm in the Elementary School Cafeteria. Doors open at 5:30 pm, and drinks, popcorn and pizza will be for sale with the proceeds going to the Hoosick Falls PTA. This movie night has a “Drive-In” theme, where you take along a comfy blanket or favorite chair to sit in.

Fourth Annual Hall-A-Palooza Membership Drive
The Polish Hall in Hoosick Falls will host its Fourth Annual “Hall-a-Palooza” membership drive on the weekend of Friday, December 7, through Sunday, December 9.
On Friday the Polish Hall will offer two dozen mahogany clams for $5 and cheese or pepperoni pizza, from Henderson’s, for $8 served from 5:30 to 8 pm.
On Saturday the Hall will feature a pot luck dinner beginning at 5 pm with dj “dan james” from 6 to 10 pm.

St. Mary’s Academy Presents The Swing Docs
Cure the winter blues or whatever’s ailing you! The Swing Docs have the prescription for entertainment as they deliver a dose of big band, swing, Latin, rock and holiday selections. The annual event will also feature light fare and a silent auction to start your holiday shopping early.
The event will be held on Saturday, December 8, in the St. Mary’s Academy gym. Doors open at 6 pm, and entertainment begins at 7 pm. Tickets are on sale now for $25 each. Please contact Pat Hayes at 518-686-4314 for reservations.
New Location For Town Of Hoosick Lions Club Holiday Tree Sale
Our annual Christmas Tree Sale is now at a new location. Tree sale this year is on Route 22 near McDonald’s at the old Getty gas station. On Saturday, December 8, at 9 am come buy your beautiful, freshly cut holiday tree to support the Town of Hoosick Lions Club. Heading north on Rt. 22, we are on the right side of the road in sight of McDonald’s. Come quickly, as we sell out all our trees so fast! Boughs for decorating will be available.
If you have used eye glasses or hearing aids, we will be glad to collect them on this date. They will be given a second life for those in need.
The Stardusters To Perform A Christmas Concert

The Stardusters of Hoosick Falls, a swing band, in the style of the “big dance bands,” will perform a Christmas concert on Sunday, December 16, at 3 pm at the Hoosick Falls Community Alliance Church located on Hill Road.

Two Petersburgh Girls Who Are Miss Olivia’s Ballet Students Dance In Professional Nutcracker

Two students from the British School of Ballet in Hoosick Falls auditioned for parts in the Christmas ballet The Nutcracker. Both girls received parts. Over 200 students from different ballet schools auditioned and about 40 students were chosen. Nine year old Adriana Hendricks from Petersburgh will be an angel and six year old Alexandra Bull will be a Polichinello.

HAYC 3 Tree Lighting, Parade And A Visit With Santa
Join HAYC3 on Friday, December 7, for the Annual Tree Lighting, Parade and Visit with Santa starting at 7 pm. Please gather in Wood Park in Hoosick Falls at 7 pm in your holiday costumes – stars, presents, menorahs, Santas and candy canes are welcome! Santa will lead the parade from Wood Park to the Armory where he will visit with each child and listen to their Christmas requests!

Cheney Library Presentation – Books For Holiday Giving
Trying to choose just the right gift for a family member or friend? On Tuesday, December 4, at 7 pm the Friends of the Cheney Library in Hoosick Falls will be hosting the first of its “Love Your Library” events. Connie Brooks of Battenkill Books in Cambridge will be giving a series of talks about books suitable for holiday gift giving. She will have the books on display to order. Selections will be for book lovers of all ages.
Throughout 2013 The Cheney Library will be having monthly events in celebration of the Library’s 90 birthday.
