The Hoosick Falls Central School PTA proudly announces a family night film series co-sponsored with the Hoosick Federal Credit Union. This is an opportunity for families to enjoy an outing free of charge. The first movie scheduled is “Madagascar 3” on Friday, November 16, at 6 pm in the High School auditorium. Doors open at 5:30 pm, and food items will be for sale with the proceeds going to the Hoosick Falls PTA.

Troop 65 Boy Scouts Sell Holiday Wreaths
Boy Scouts will again sell wreaths this holiday season. The beautiful 14″ Fraser Fir wreath sells for $14 plain, $16 with red or burgundy bow or $18 complete with bow and decorations. Wreaths are delivered to your home in Hoosick, Berlin, Bennington or Cambridge areas before Thanksgiving or can be picked up at the First Baptist Church on Sunday, November 18, from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. HooRWA Turkey Trot
On Saturday, November 24, at 10 am there will be a Turkey Trot, or Take-a-Walk, on the Hoosic River Greenway in Hoosick Falls for young, for old, for families, for everyone! Walk off that Thanksgiving dinner and explore the Hoosic River Greenway, including its newly resurfaced southern section, and the nearby Hoosic River. Meet at the old Water Works off Carey Avenue in Hoosick Falls at 10 am. Really wet weather will cancel the event. This event is sponsored by the Hoosic River Watershed Association and the Village of Hoosick Falls.

The silence through the Hoosick and Hoosick Falls area late Tuesday afternoon, Tuesday night and Wednesday morning into afternoon was deafening. Not a train rumble or whistle was heard. It was scarier than Halloween. The cause of the silence was a 14 car derailment not far from the Hoosick Falls Wastewater Treatment Plant at about four o’clock Tuesday. Joyce Brewer Honored By HACA

At the annual HACA Volunteer Appreciation Harvest Brunch on October 20 at the First United Presbyterian Church Joyce Brewer was honored as the Volunteer of the Year. Joyce is a Girl Scout Leader, HACA volunteer and organizer of the recent very successful “Fill the Bus” drive for the Food Closet.

New Hoosick Historical Society Book

The Hoosick Township Historical Society is releasing its 32 page book on November 2. The title of this year’s book is Hoosick Falls 125th Anniversary August 12 – 17 1952 The Largest and most Successful Local Celebration. This book recalls the “Brothers of the Brush” and the “Sisters of the Swish.” Men were required to have facial hair and women were required to give up cosmetics.
