Lots Of Food In The Yellow Bus

On Sunday afternoon, October 7, Dianne Hosterman of the HACA Food Closet looked a little overwhelmed as the bags and boxes were unloaded from the big yellow school bus. Lauren Davendonis, Madison Greenwood, Joyce Brewer, Sam Brewer and Janet Deluca unloaded bag after bag after bag of canned and boxed foods. Matt Brewster, Drew Phillips and Levi Brewster carried in the boxes loaded with foodstuffs. Soon the floor was covered with almost 125 bags and 45 boxes of everyday food items, essential to so many families in need.

Members Honored At Kiwanis Installation

At their banquet at the Hoosick Falls Country Club on Tuesday evening, October 2, the Hoosick Falls Kiwanis Club honored several members for their years of service. Dr. Martinez was recognized for being a Kiwanis member for 55 years. Herb Loretan received a Legion of Honor award for 40 years, Peter Martin for 35 years, and Larry Baker and Joseph Ruggiero were honored with plaques for 25 years. The Knights of Columbus are having a buffet breakfast at the Immaculate Conception Church in Hoosick Falls on Sunday, October 21, from 10 am to noon. The breakfast features homemade waffles, eggs, home fries, sausage, coffee and oj. The price for adults is $6, $3 for children under 12.

Hoosick Falls – Patricia Lohnes, 70, formerly of Hoosick Falls, NY, passed away on Friday, October 12, 2012, at her home in Canon City, CO, after a long, courageous battle with pancreatic and lung cancer.
Born in the “old” Hoosick Falls Health Center on Hall Street on February 27, 1942, she was the daughter of Ralph and Ida (Domonic) Davendonis. She spent her childhood and early life in Hoosick Falls, graduating from St. Mary’s Academy in 1959. Pat worked at the “old” Grand Union which was on the site of the present day Rite Aid. Many will remember her as an avid bowler for many years as one of the Sharkettes team.

First Open Meeting On The Future Of The Village Of Hoosick Falls
To Dissolve Or Not To Dissolve

At least 60 people attended the first in a series of meetings regarding the future of Hoosick Falls. Mayor Matt Monahan opened the meeting stating there are misconceptions floating around about this process. He was emphatic that no decisions have been made at this point. He said, “Times are hard, taxes are up, there are not a lot of businesses in the Village and New York is a rough state taxwise.” He added that in the Village the economy is in tough shape and the Village has an aging population. He noted there are over 100 homes for sale in the Hoosick area and many have been for sale for more than a year. Many other homes are in foreclosure. Village of Hoosick Falls Board Action – Niel Stowell Commended For 25 Years Of Service

The first order of business for Mayor Matt Monahan at the Hoosick Falls Village Board meeting on Tuesday, October 9, was to recognize Highway Superintendent Niel Stowell for 25 years of service to the Village.
Deputy Mayor Paul Haynes reported that the fiscal year end shows the Village didn’t have to use any of the fund balance set aside for the year. The Water Department had a $37,000 surplus and the Wastewater Department had a $35,000 surplus.
