Paintings by Stanley Brostoski, a long time Shaftsbury resident who passed away in June 2012, will be on exhibit at Southern Vermont College’s Burgdorff Gallery in the Everett Mansion in Bennington now through September 25. Fifteen works on both canvas and paper show the artist’s interest in the natural scene as painted landscape and in the human figure as well. Brostoski last exhibited his photography at Southern Vermont College in 2005.

Hoosick Falls – Rose Luciani Martelle, 91, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on September 6, 2012.
Born in the Bronx, NY, Rose was a first generation Italian-American, the daughter of the late John and Jennie (Ribaudo) Russo and was very proud of her Italian heritage throughout her lifetime. Rose’s family vacationed upstate in the Cambridge area for several years before relocating to Cambridge, NY, when Rose was a teenager.

William O’Brien
Hoosick Falls – William O’Brien, 55, passed away on August 13, 2012, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, VT. He had resided on Mechanic Street in Hoosick Falls, NY.
Born on September 2, 1956, in Bennington, William was the son of the late William and Melva (Telford) O’Brien. He attended Cambridge Central School and worked at several area farms and at Hoosick Statuary.

Hoosick Falls Country Club Is Expanding Services

The Hoosick Falls Country Club is offering the community more than a golf course this year. Besides the bar, it now has a full service restaurant. After its membership meeting on September 14, the Club may be working to winterize the facility so it is open all year.

The Hoosick Irish Open
The Hoosick Falls St. Patrick’s Parade committee will host a half-way to St. Patrick’s Day event – the Hoosick Irish Open Crazy Pin Golf Scramble. The Scramble will take place on Saturday, September 22, with a 1 pm shotgun start. Each team will consist of four players. The fee is $50 per player.
Come and test your golf skills at some of the craziest pin placements. Golfers and non-golfers are welcome to attend and take a chance on great raffles. Come and enjoy the scenic views, music, bagpipes and food on the Hoosick Falls Country Club porch. Come take part in the fun.

HAYC3 Offers Before School Program
HAYC3 is offering a before school program beginning on Thursday, September 6. The program will begin at 5 am and end at 8:15 am. Bus transportation will be provided to school. Parents are welcome to send a bag breakfast with their child if they wish to do so. This program will cost $45 a week. Please contact HAYC3 at 518-686-9050 for more information and registration.
