Hoosick Falls – Joan (Hewson) Rogers, 82, passed peacefully on January 22, 2012, at her residence on High Street in Hoosick Falls, NY. Joan was the wife of Raymond Rogers, who died in 2009.

Hoosick Falls – Jerry D. DeLuca, 87, formerly of High Street in Hoosick Falls, NY, died peacefully at the Eddy Village Green Nursing Facility in Slingerlands, NY, on Saturday evening, January 21, 2012, surrounded by his loving family.
Born October 8, 1924, in Hoosick Falls, he was the son of the late Santo and Laura D’Amico DeLuca. He was pre-deceased by his loving wife, Marjorie Cranston DeLuca, on February 23, 2010. They were married on December 17, 1977.

Hoosick Falls – Robin C. Kessler, 30, passed away on Monday, January 23, 2012, at the Albany Medical Center, Albany, NY. She had resided on Munsell Street in Hoosick Falls, NY, with her husband Courtney Kessler and their children.
Born on April 30, 1981, in Bennington, VT, Robin was the daughter of Jeffrey and Crystal (Metcalfe) Pierce of Pownal, VT. According to Hoosick Falls Fire Chief Robert Bornt, the Hoosick Falls and North Hoosick Fire Departments were the first on the scene of a fire at the back of the Oak-Mitsui, Inc. building on First Street on Thursday, January 12, at approximately 10 am. Hoosick Falls Water Department Supervisor Jim Hurlburt was concerned late Monday afternoon, January 16, when water in the Rensselaer Street tank began dropping rapidly. “It was about 5:30, and water usage usually increases about that time,” he said. “But this was far too much water. It was about 800 gallons a minute.” Hurlburt dreaded having to drive around the Village looking for the leak. “I was relieved when I got the call from the County,” he said.

Village of Hoosick Falls Board Meeting – 50 Dwellings Lack Water Meters

At the Hoosick Falls Village Board meeting held on Tuesday, January 17, Mayor Matt Monahan said there are still 50 dwellings in the Village that do not have water meters. He said the owners will be fined $150 every three months until a meter is installed. The Village is also looking into having the water to those buildings shut off within 90 days of notification.

Siena College Athletes Adopt St. Mary’s Academy
Men and women basketball players from Siena College paid a special visit to St. Mary’s Academy in Hoosick Falls as part of their annual Adopt-a-School program. The athletes held skills clinics for the students, demonstrated their own skills and even took time out for a competitive game of Pictionary. Hoosick Falls Health Center Annual Meeting Notice
The Annual Meeting of the Hoosick Falls Health Center, Inc., for the purpose of electing a Board of Directors and to transact any other business as may properly come before it, will be held on Tuesday, January 31, at 7:30 am at the Health Center, 21 Danforth Street, Hoosick Falls, NY.
Any person who has contributed to the Health Center in the previous year is entitled to be present and to vote.
The Hoosick Falls Health Center provides care to anyone who can benefit from its services regardless of race, creed, color, national origin, blindness, sexual orientation, handicap or source of payment.
Harry Weir Foundation Gives $8,000 To Hoosick Area

On Saturday, January 7, Norma Brenenstuhl, on behalf of Key Private Bank trust administrator Michele Nichols, presented checks from the Harry Weir Foundation to the following individuals for their organizations. The amount distributed this year was $8,000. That is five thousand dollars less than was available from the fund the previous year. The presentations were made at the Cheney Library.
