Cheney Library Book Sale

Cheney Library on Classic Street in the Village of Hoosick Falls will have a book sale in the basement of the Library on the first Saturday of each month during regular library hours. The first book sale will be held August 6; the hours will be 8 am until 1 pm. There are many new titles in both fiction and non-fiction for adults and children. Be sure to check it out! If you miss the August Saturday you can catch one in the future. For more information, call 686-9715. Cheney Library hours are: Monday 1-8 pm; Tuesday 10 am – 5 pm; Wednesday and Thursday 1 – 8 pm; Friday 11 am – 4 pm; Saturday 8 am – 1 pm.

Hoosick Falls Soccer Club Registration Begins

The Hoosick Falls Soccer Club is now accepting registrations for Fall Soccer; both rec and travel teams are in need of players.
Travel soccer is open to players in grades four and up with a deadline of August 1.
Rec soccer is open to students in pre-k to second grade with a deadline of September 1.
Registration is open to players in Hoosick Falls and surrounding towns.  For more information, go to www.hoosickfallssoccer.org.

Julie Irick Fund-Raiser

Julie Irick and her family have recently found themselves between and rock and a hard place. Julie is currently suffering from partial facial paralysis and double vision in one eye. Doctors are unsure if she has had a stroke or if she suffers from multiple sclerosis. Until they make a diagnosis there is no treatment. Julie is unable to work and has difficulty chasing after her youngest son, who is 15 months old.

Doris M. St. Hilaire

Hoosick Falls – Doris M. St. Hilaire, 93, went home to her heavenly Father on Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, VT. She was the wife of the late William St. Hilaire, who died in 2000; they had been married for sixty years.

Brigadier General (Ret.) James J. Kenney

Hoosick Falls – Brigadier General (Ret.) James Joseph Kenney, 83, of North Hoosick, NY, passed away peacefully Monday morning, July 25, 2011, at his residence with his loving wife at his bedside.
Born in Hoosick Falls, NY, on December 6, 1927, he was the only son of the late James Simon and Frances Mae Maley Kenney. Jim married the love of his life, Leona Jones, on April 16, 1966, in Berlin, NY.

Change To Dougherty Corner Building Plans Approved

On Wednesday evening, July 20, the Hoosick Falls Zoning Board reconvened its meeting begun the previous Tuesday evening, July 12.  At that meeting Dougherty corner owner Alex Koks, architect Jim Clark from the Laberge Group and attorney Rolf Sternberg addressed the Board regarding Koks’ change in plans for the Bed and Breakfast/Hotel and Restaurant designed for the corner of Main and John Streets. Hoosick Falls Village Meeting – Veterans Memorial Wall Plan Approved

At the Village of Hoosick Falls Board meeting on Tuesday, July 12, the Board approved the design for the ground work for the Veterans Memorial Wall. Wall committee member Bob Becker showed the plan, which will incorporate the millstone already in the park in the design, to the Board. The plantings will be reviewed once the ground work is complete. There will be a new sidewalk leading toward the walls starting from the Main Street sidewalk. The design will expand to a V and will include brick type trim on the edges and cement and exposed aggregate in the center. Village Trustee Ric DiDonato said he did not want to see the walls overpower the gazebo as that is also an important part of Wood Park. Becker agreed.
