At the regular meeting of the Hoosick Falls Village Board on Tuesday evening, June 14, Trustee Michael Hickey announced his resignation from the Board. He has recently purchased a home on Albany Street which is located two houses outside the Village line. Mayor Matt Monahan thanked him for his contribution to the Board over the years. His chair was still warm when David Borge was sworn in to replace him. The Mayor noted it would be a short tenure, from June until next March when Hickey’s term expires.

TV Icon Ed Dague At Hoosick Area Senior Center

For more than an hour on Thursday, June 9, former television news anchorman Ed Dague shared his experience as a television icon with the crowd at the Hoosick Senior Center. Hoosick Girl Scout Honor Ceremony

On Sunday, June 12, Hoosick Girl Scouts their families, and their leaders gathered together for their year end Honor Ceremony at Hoosac School. The program began with a procession of scouts lead by the youngest Daisies (kindergartners) and a presentation of flags by one of the Ambassador troops (a sophomore and four juniors) and with remarks from Service Unit Manager Joyce Brewer. High Street House Gone!

Quick as a wink this week the house at 38 High Street/Route 22 in Hoosick Falls was demolished and removed. Large trees have also been taken down and run through a chipper. Work is underway to repair the west side of High Street where utility poles have been tilting, sidewalks sinking and the roadway crumbling.

Wilbert J. Allard
Hoosick Falls – Wilbert J. Allard, 81, passed away on May 29, 2011, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, VT. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth (Donahue) Allard, who died in 1987. Wilbert resided on Parsons Avenue in Hoosick Falls, NY.

The Hoosick Falls Community Remembers

In Hoosick Falls during the last few weeks there has been a Village cleanup, and flags have been placed on the light poles. New stairs have been put on the gazebo in Wood Park and flower buckets have been filled along the streets. Flags have been placed on the graves of all the veterans buried in Hoosick Falls. Many of those veterans will soon have their names cast in bronze for plaques to be placed on the new Memorial Wall in Wood Park. The names on paper were placed on the Wall for Memorial Day for folks to review for the last time for changes and corrections.

Memorial Weekend Starts With A Broken Waterline In Hoosick Falls

Memorial Day weekend got off to a roaring start in Hoosick Falls Friday evening when a waterline at the top of the hill on Carey Avenue burst and sent water, stone and mud surging down into the yard of the Brandon Harrington home and across the street to the pumping station. Village crews and the Hoosick Falls Fire Department arrived between seven and 7:30 to shut off the water and begin repair work.

TV News Anchor To Visit The Hoosick Falls Senior Center
Longtime Capital District television news anchor Ed Dague from Channel 13 will be visiting the Hoosick Falls Senior Center on Thursday, June 9, at 12:30 pm. Ed Dague retired in 2003 from Channel 13 as a television news reporter. He will be telling the story of his days as a news anchor. Ed also has written a new book, Six and Eleven. Come on in and meet Ed, and if you already have his book, bring it in to have him sign it. Everyone is welcome!
Hoosick Falls Kiwanis Celebrates 83 Years

The Hoosick Falls Kiwanis Club celebrated its 83rd birthday Tuesday evening, May 17, by hosting the Van Rensselaer Division Council dinner meeting at the Hoosick Falls Country Club.

Derby Club Donates To SMA

On Thursday evening, May 10, at Ferrara’s Restaurant, members of the Derby Club presented St. Mary’s Academy staff members with a check for $500 for the SMA Roof Fund. A drive to replace the school roof is underway. Estimated cost for the project is over $100,000.
