Hubbard Hall Opera Theatre has opened a production of Engelbert Humperdinck’s (the 19th century composer, not the 1960s pop singer who borrowed his name) masterpiece Hansel and Gretel, complete with a full orchestra of 20+ pieces, conducted by Michael Ricciardone.

Last Call For This Weekend’s Hoosic River Ride
With a promising weather report and a little less dust in the air thanks to the recent rains, the stage is set for the 6th annual Hoosic River Ride this Saturday, August 21, at Southern Vermont College in Bennington. Roads are being marked to direct cyclists along their selected routes, the burritos have been ordered, baked goods, salads and other treats are in the making for the post-ride picnic and aid stations and T-shirts with the ride’s signature heron are piling up. Tsubo therapists will even be offering post ride massages!

More than 40 people joined Hoosick Falls Central School girls soccer coach Tom Husser on a memorable trip to Europe in late July. Fourteen girls from HFCS, one gal from Schuylerville, one from Loudonville and two from Seattle, WA, made up Husser’s girls soccer team that played in the Valtellina Football Cup in Italy. The Girl Can Play

Chelsea Stevens loves baseball. So does her younger brother Andrew. Good thing, because their father, Ken, is a baseball nut. He has been collecting baseball cards and baseball memorabilia since he was four years old. He played baseball at HFCS, where he won the Frank Stevens Award, and in college at SUNY Oneonta. His team won the All SUNY championship in 1987. The children’s mom, Margaret is not a sports nut, but she is a great cheerleader. Ken has played an active role in the Hoosick Youth Softball and Baseball program since his children have been involved.

Connor McCart and his family appeared in the well of the Rensselaer County Legislature during the presentation period of the Legislature’s session on Tuesday, August 10. McCart had been honored in a resolution passed last month recognizing his achievement of being chosen to compete in Yankee Stadium on June 19 in Major League Baseball’s Pitch, Hit and Run Competition and for capturing second place in his age group.

Robert Farrara is very pleased with his new restaurant on Classic St. “It’s going very well,” he said. “I’m very pleased with the Village Board, the Planning Board and the public. They have made it a very business friendly atmosphere.” Farrara felt that there was a need for more dining variety in the Village, and he had a desire to create a cocktail lounge with background music where the older set would feel comfortable enjoying some wine or a cocktail.
