Wednesday Night Bowling League

Men’s Wednesday Night International Bowling League at Hoosick Falls Barbecue Recreation begins September 8. It is a handicap league with one shift and practice beginning at 6:35 pm.

Hoosick Falls – Margaret “Peggy” Yavaniski, 80, passed away on Saturday, August 21, 2010, at her residence on River Street in Hoosick Falls, NY. She was the wife of the late William Yavaniski, who died several years ago.

McElheny Charged With Murder

Joseph F. McElheny, 30, of 3 River St., Hoosick Falls was indicted by a Grand Jury, arrested and arraigned in Rensselaer County Court before Judge Andrew Ceresia on Friday, August 13. He is charged with second degree murder, second degree manslaughter, three counts of second degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child. The charges stem from the death of his four and a half month old daughter, Ina Jane, on May 12 when the Hoosick Falls Police were called to the home because the child was unresponsive. Investigation into the death by the NYS Police has been underway since then. An autopsy was performed and the charges are based on that medical and other evidence.
McElheny is being held in the Rensselaer County Jail pending a bail application by his attorney.

Village of Hoosick Falls Board Action – Water Meter Fines

At the close of the Public Hearing on water meter fines during the Hoosick Falls Village Board Meeting on Tuesday, August 17, the Board approved Local Law #2. Effective October 1 anyone who has not installed a water meter in his or her property will be fined $250 a month until a meter is installed. Hoosick Businesses Burglarized

Sgt. Holcomb of the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that burglaries took place in Hoosick late Friday night into Saturday morning, August 13 and 14. Dorris DuPont Celebrates 100 Years

Barney Oldfield set a land speed record of 131.7 mph at Daytona in 1910. The first Father’s Day was celebrated, the Boy Scouts of America was founded and President William Howard Taft began the tradition of throwing out the first baseball on opening day. And on August 15, 1910, Dorris DuPont was born in Gouverneur, NY, in St. Lawrence County.

Hoosick Falls Country Club Thursday Night League Team Scramble

In Division One George Smith and Paul Haynes won the Low Gross portion of the Thursday Night League Team Scramble competition with a minus 6, 28. Brad Eastman and Mike Hickey took Low Net with a Net 28.75.
