Parents Raising Safe Kids Program Starts March 15

Parents are invited to participate in a free eight-week program called Parents Raising Safe Kids at the Hoosick Family Resource Center (CEO Head Start Building) on River Road. The program begins on March 15 and will be held each Monday from 5 to 8 pm.

Irish Stew Cook-Off

The Hoosick Falls Irish Festival will host its first ever Irish Stew Cook-Off on Saturday, March 13. Organizer Mary Bradley lived in Texas for a number of years and attended a number of chili cook-offs there. “They were a lot of fun, and I always thought of running something like that here.” For more information on entering the event and for contest rules, contact Mary Bradley at 518-686-5050 or email hoosickkid@gmail for an entry form.

County Honors Arthur E. Gifford, Vietnam War Army Vet, Recipient Of Purple Heart And Silver Star Medals

The late Arthur E. Gifford, recipient of the Purple Heart and Silver Star Medals among other military awards and decorations for his honorable service to our nation as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam War, and, lifelong resident of the Town of Hoosick, was recognized on Monday, February 8, 2010 by the Rensselaer County Honor-A-Deceased Veteran Committee as well as County, state and federal officials.

HACA Free Tax Service

The Hoosick Area Church Association (HACA), for the sixth year, is offering free assistance to the public in preparing income tax returns through the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance or VITA program. The Hoosick Falls Performing Arts Booster Club is presenting a New York, New York Dinner Cabaret on Saturday, March 6. Lenten Fish Fry Fridays Are Back

St. Mary’s Academy will be holding its second annual Fish Fry Friday night dinners throughout Lent. Dinners will be served from 5 to 7 pm, or until sold out, at the Immaculate Conception Church Hall through March 26.  Dinners are $8 and include hand battered fish fry, french fries, coleslaw, dessert and your choice of our famous homemade tartar or cocktail sauce. Dinners available for eat in or take out. For more information, please call the school at 686-4314.
