The last resolution passed by the Rensselaer County Legislature in its regular session on Tuesday, October 13, was one commending Hoosick Falls Police Chief Robert Whalen who, according to the resolution, will retire on November 6 in order to spend more time with his wife Diane and three children. Hoosick Falls Residents Under Boil Water Order

Hoosick Falls residents have been under a Boil Water Order from the Rensselaer County Health Department since Monday, October 19, when valves failed to hold while a repair was underway. Water Department Head Jim Hurlburt has been taking water samples to the Health Dept. and he expects the Boil Water Order to be lifted Thursday afternoon, October 22.

Town Of Hoosick Halloween Parade
All ghosts, goblins and super heroes are invited to the annual Town of Hoosick Halloween Parade on Friday, October 30. Judging will begin at 6:30 pm. The parade will kick-off at 7 pm from Wood Park. Prizes will be awarded for children with the best costumes. Students from the Hoosick Falls Central School Honor Society will be judging the costumes. Refreshments will be provided by Stewart’s, and prizes will be awarded by the Hoosick Falls Police Department PBA. For more information, contact Kevin O’Malley at 686-9460.
Hoosick Democrats Host Meet The Candidates Event
The Town of Hoosick Democratic party will be hosting their annual Wine and Cheese Party on Sunday, October 25, from 5 to 8 pm at The Sand Bar. Everyone is invited to come and meet the Democratic candidates for the upcoming November 3 election. There will be a light fare, soft drinks, beer and wine. Tickets are on sale at Thorpe’s Pharmacy from Jim Monahan, or you can call Mark Cottrell at 686-9521, Kevin O’Malley at 686-9460, Marilyn Douglas at 686-9707, Maggie Casey at 686-7367, Pat Hayes at 205-5104 or Bob Ryan at 686-4857. Tickets will also be sold at the door. Tickets cost $10.
Halloween Kids Dance
The North Hoosick Fire Department will hold its annual Halloween Kids Dance on Friday, October 23, from 7 to 10:30 pm at the fire station on Rt. 22. Students ages 9 to 15 and who attend Hoosick Falls Central, Cambridge Central and St. Mary’s Academy are invited to attend this dance. Costume judging will take place, and prizes will be awarded for the best five costumes. Costumes are optional. Parents are reminded to be on time to pick up students and they must sign their child out after the dance.

The Northeast New York Safety & Health Council will sponsor the Defensive Driving Course at the Hoosick Falls Health Center, Danforth Street, Hoosick Falls, on Saturday, October 31, beginning at 8:30 am promptly.

Football Homecoming: It Doesn’t Get Any Better

Football doesn’t get any more exciting than last Friday’s homecoming game between HFCS and Cambridge HS for the Ken Baker Jug. Excitement built up through the week as everyone talked about the upcoming event. It was the game not to be missed by folks in either community. The late Ken Baker taught and coached at HF and Cambridge Schools. He was loved and respected by everyone who knew him. He produced championship teams at both schools. Possession of the Ken Baker Jug is a matter of pride, no doubt. Many of his former players were there to cheer on their teams.
