The Town of Hoosick swimming pool will close for the season on Friday, August 16. The early closing is so the pool can be drained and GPR Systems can begin scanning around it. The scanning will determine the strength and weaknesses of the underground area surrounding the pool. Those results will help define what type of repairs will be needed to preserve the pool for years to come. That step will be followed by cost estimates and a strategy to fund the repairs.

West Hoosick – Molly McGovern-Hoyt of West Arlington, VT, 40 years old, beloved wife of Wayne Hoyt, died unexpectedly at her home on Tuesday, August 6, 2013.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her wonderful step-children, Ashley, Lindsay, Kylie and Logan Hoyt, her parents, William and Barbara McGovern of West Hoosick, NY, her grandmother, Helen McGovern, and her aunts and uncles, Barbara and George Arakelian and Christine and Richard Catlin. Hathaway’s Drive-in In Jeopardy

Duane and Betsy Greenawalt have been working hard this season to find ways to raise the $70,000 necessary to purchase digital equipment to keep the Hathaway’s Drive-in in North Hoosick open. Riot At The Rink; Wrestling Tournament Draws Hundreds

On Saturday and Sunday, July 27 and 28, a major wrestling event was held in Hoosick Falls, the fourth year of what is now called “Riot at the Rink.” According to organizer Mike LaPorte and his assistant Walter Sass, 14 teams, consisting of more than 245 wrestlers, came to wrestle at the wrestling tournament. de Creeft To Show At The Armory

Hoosick Falls has always been a part of Donna Maria de Creeft’s life. She grew up here and in New York City. Her parents bought their house on the hill in the 1940s, and her family would come up from the city on May 1 and stay until November 1. The teacher at the one room schoolhouse in West Hoosick, which is now the Volunteer Firehouse, was one of her early artistic supporters.

Samaritan Hospital Cancer Treatment Center Fundraiser
There will be a Wine/Music Festival to benefit Visions of Strength, a non-profit affiliated with Samaritan Hospital Cancer Treatment Center on Saturday, August 10, from 1 to 4 pm at Why Not Wine, 5152 Rt. 7, in Hoosick.
This event is sponsored by Adirondack Winery & Brotherhood Winery. Live music will be provided by Original Express. A $10 donation will be requested, and you must be 21 to sample wines. The Festival will be held underneath a tent – bring your chair or blanket.
