Hoosick And Hoosick Falls Residents Angry Over Water Bills

In a plea for relief that spilled from the Village Board Meeting to the Town Meeting Tuesday night, residents from the Green Heights housing development sought help to control their ever soaring water bills.
The Village has changed to a metered water system, billing on usage instead of a flat rate. The transition has been rocky in the Village, with residents saying at the Village meeting Tuesday that many of their bills have tripled. Those complaints were soothed by Mayor Matt Monahan who explained that there had been some snags. The Village offered forms to log complaints.

Hoosick Falls Suicide Prevention Walk Draws Hundreds

Approximately 200 people took to the streets Sunday evening in a candlelight walk to raise awareness about depression and suicide and provide comfort to those who have lost loved ones to suicide.
The walk was spearheaded by two families who have turned their grief after losing teen aged sons to suicide into a campaign to prevent others from suffering the loss they have endured.

Hoosick Town Board Action – First Step Taken On The White Creek Road Bridge Repair

The Town took the first step towards replacing the White Creek Road bridge Tuesday night.
The Board authorized an engineering study that will detail a plan to replace the structure at a cost of approximately $236,000. Of that, a federal grant will pick up 80 percent of the cost and a second grant is expected to pay 12.5 to 15 percent, leaving the town responsible for about 5 percent.

Pioneer Fish & Game Club Elects Officers

The Pioneer Fish and Game Club, Inc.’s 65th annual election of officers and banquet was held at the club grounds in Potter Hill on September 18. The election results are as folows: President – Ed Sukuskas, Vice President – Rodd Post, Treasurer – Dick Ogden, Secretary – Gary Sargood.
A short meeting was held and afterward a pig roast was enjoyed by more than 50 members and guests. The Rensselaer County Conservation Alliance was represented by Vice President Tom Agar.
Glenn Miller
Hoosick – Glenn Richter Paul Miller, 48, passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2011, at the Samaritan Hospital in Troy, NY. He had resided on Route 7 in Hoosick, NY, with the love of his life Sherry Marozas.
Born on September 10, 1963, in Weymouth, MA, Glenn was the son of Ronald K. and Anne F. (Dasey) Miller. Glenn worked as a self-employed carpenter throughout his life. He enjoyed working with his hands, woodworking and drawing. He enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson.
Survivors, other than his fiancée and his parents, include his son, two brothers, three sisters, three step-daughters, a step-son, a step-brother, two step-sisters and three step-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are Friday, October 14, at 10:30 am from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, NY. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 9:30 am until the start of the service. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Hoosick Falls. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Second Chance Animal Shelter or the American Heart Association through the funeral home.

The HACA Food Pantry has provided 23,067 nutritious meals to 2,563 of our neighbors in the Hoosick Area so far this year. A three day supply of food for breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus produce, bakery goods and personal care items is provided. County Legislature Recognizes Hoosick Falls Girl Scouts’ Remembrance Quilt

Members of the Rensselaer County Legislature welcomed two Hoosick Falls Girl Scouts who designed a special remembrance quilt for the 10th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks.
The quilt was designed by Sarah Sigot and Tiffany St. Hilaire and includes depictions of American ideals and values and events that occurred during the terrorist attacks.

American Red Cross Blood Drive In Hoosick October 10
The Town of Hoosick Republican Party will sponsor its annual American Red Cross Blood Drive on Monday, October 10, at the North Hoosick Fire House from 1 to 6 pm.
Every minute of every day, someone needs blood. That blood can only come from volunteer donors, like yourself. When blood is needed in an emergency situation, it is taken from a shelf where donated blood has been stored. Your donation of blood could help to save the life of a family member, a friend, a neighbor, a child, a complete stranger. Becoming a blood donor is very rewarding because you know you have helped someone else in need. One donation can save the lives of up to three people.
