West Hoosick – Sadie E. Pleasant, 95, passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2011, at the Bennington Health & Rehabilitation Center in Bennington, VT. She had resided on the Buskirk/West Hoosick Road in West Hoosick, NY, and was the wife of the late Harold Pleasant, who died on June 18, 2011.

Stratton Expands Custom Butchering Business

Greg Stratton has taken the plunge. What started out as a part time business last fall has become his full time job. He has purchased all the necessary equipment, and construction is almost complete on his processing facility next to his home. Stratton does on site slaughtering of farm animals raised for meat, then brings the animals to his Pine Valley Rd. building for custom butchering. He also processes wild animals.

The Town of Hoosick Republican Party will sponsor a Giffy’s Chicken BBQ on Thursday, September 22, 2011 at the Grand Union Parking lot from 4:00 -6:00 pm.  Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased from any Committee member or by calling the number below.  There will be limited amount of extra meals, so order soon.  We always sell out early.

Register Now For Pumpkinpalooza 5K

Registration is open for the Hoosick Pumpkinpalooza 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, September 24, 2011. The race is sponsored by Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics. Start and finish is in Wood Park on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. The course runs through the Village of Hoosick Falls and includes hills, turns and a lovely stretch along the Hoosic River. The race will be held rain or shine.

Pumpkinpalooza Pancake Breakfast

The Hoosick Girl Scouts will host a pancake breakfast during the 3rd Annual Hoosick Pumpkinpalooza. They will be serving pancakes, juice and coffee under the tent at the Town of Hoosick Athletic Fields before and during this year’s Punkin’ Chunkin’ event.

Hoosick And Hoosick Falls Mostly Spared By Hurricane Irene

Residents of the Town of Hoosick and the Village of Hoosick Falls are counting their blessings after Hurricane Irene. Compared to neighboring communities such as Petersburgh, Grafton, Bennington and Troy, the Town and Village were relatively unscathed. Rain from the west fell in Hoosick on and off late Saturday afternoon and evening, then stopped. Sometime after midnight the steady rain from Irene began and was continuous until late Sunday evening. When the rain stopped, the winds picked up, though they were not as severe as anticipated.

Town Hall Sites Discussed At Workshop

The Town of Hoosick Board held a workshop meeting on Monday, August 29, at 6 pm. The topic of the meeting was the site review and possible floor plans put together by engineer Bill Cottrell for the three buildings under consideration for the Town Hall. Cottrell presented the Board with three drawings. The layouts were not exhaustive, he said, and were based on the Town’s needs. They outlined the exiting of buildings and the changes required. He suggested Board members take time to look over the plans before going to the next step, which would be cost estimates.
