Last Call For This Weekend’s Hoosic River Ride

With a promising weather report and a little less dust in the air thanks to the recent rains, the stage is set for the 6th annual Hoosic River Ride this Saturday, August 21, at Southern Vermont College in Bennington. Roads are being marked to direct cyclists along their selected routes, the burritos have been ordered, baked goods, salads and other treats are in the making for the post-ride picnic and aid stations and T-shirts with the ride’s signature heron are piling up. Tsubo therapists will even be offering post ride massages!

Hoosick Girls Soccer Wins In Italy

More than 40 people joined Hoosick Falls Central School girls soccer coach Tom Husser on a memorable trip to Europe in late July. Fourteen girls from HFCS, one gal from Schuylerville, one from Loudonville and two from Seattle, WA, made up Husser’s girls soccer team that played in the Valtellina Football Cup in Italy. Hoosick Town Board Action – Town Taking Over Dog Licensing

At the Hoosick Town Board meeting on Monday, August 9, Hoosick Town Clerk Sue Stradinger told the Board she had received word from NYS Agriculture and Marketing that that department would no longer be doing the billing for dog licenses. She gave copies of the lengthy document she took off the internet containing the NYS guidelines which must be followed for Towns to bill for the licenses and how they are to establish a budget line for fees collected and how to set up fees for sheltering strays. The Girl Can Play

Chelsea Stevens loves baseball. So does her younger brother Andrew. Good thing, because their father, Ken, is a baseball nut. He has been collecting baseball cards and baseball memorabilia since he was four years old. He played baseball at HFCS, where he won the Frank Stevens Award, and in college at SUNY Oneonta. His team won the All SUNY championship in 1987. The children’s mom, Margaret is not a sports nut, but she is a great cheerleader. Ken has played an active role in the Hoosick Youth Softball and Baseball program since his children have been involved.

Rensselaer County Legislature – Red Sox Nation

Connor McCart and his family appeared in the well of the Rensselaer County Legislature during the presentation period of the Legislature’s session on Tuesday, August 10. McCart had been honored in a resolution passed last month recognizing his achievement of being chosen to compete in Yankee Stadium on June 19 in Major League Baseball’s Pitch, Hit and Run Competition and for capturing second place in his age group.

Hoosick Grange News

Hoosick Grange had a meeting on July 28 with Master David Cornell. Under new business, David told us that the heating plan and oil plan that we voted on was completed. He also discussed the fair booth. The Lecturer said she would tell more about it during the Lecturer’s program. Norma Brenenstuhl told about the Grangers that were remembered since the last meeting. Strengthening Families In Hoosick Falls

A free, seven week program for parents or guardians and children ages 10 to 14 is coming to Hoosick Falls. Slated to begin on September 29, the program will be held at the Hoosick Youth & Community Center.  Past program participants rave about how much they learned and how much fun they had doing it.

Hoosick Summer Family Fair

San Damiano Family Support Services has announced that it will hold a Summer Family Fair in Hoosick Falls on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, August 26-28. It will be held at the Town of Hoosick athletic field. Admission is free.
There will be rides, concession stands, food and vendors and a three day encampment by the Boy Scouts to celebrate 100 years of Scouting.
